Thanks for sharing!! Man, I am ready to see these guy up in the big leagues. If he's slugging like this in AAA, there is no reason he shouldn't get a shot. I like the Edgar Martinez comparisons. Obviously, it might be setting expectations too high to compare him to a borderline Hall of Famer, but those BB-K numbers are incredible. Seems to have a good eye for the baseball, which seems to be a HUGE determinant in big league success. We'll see.
Probably not the main reason but proximity is probably a reason. AA makes sense simply because that's where they spent their minor league time. Neither spent any significant time (if any) at Fresno, so if they went to AAA they'd have to get acclimated to new teammates, coaches and a new city. That's a pretty big deal. Plus I always hear more about Doug Brocail at Corpus than I hear about Ace Adams (actually had to look him up) at Fresno.
I really liked Reed out of college, and White is certainly becoming more intriguing, but here's what I don't get: Why the complete infatuation with both players? I mean, there are tons of CF posters who are dying to have either or both on our roster right now. I get our 1B struggles. But Singleton is just one (of many) prime example of how monstrous, stud minor league numbers don't always translate to the majors. Bringing either up either in mid-August of a playoff run just seems questionable to me, especially given that neither will get consistent work-loads.
If you get the 1B struggles, then you get it. The team is missing 98% of production from a position that typically is one of the top run-producers on the team. Because Singleton and Carter have been complete garbage forever, and anything close to average would be an improvement. So a lot of people would like these guys to get a shot at just being mediocre MLB hitters...knowing that they also have the potential of actually being, you know, ML average for a 1B or even better.
If either was up, they would be our regular 1B. We want them up because Carter has been bad all year, and we could really use that extra production from 1B. When rosters expand, it will be interesting to see if Singleton gets more starts.
I don't know how good Ruiz and Folty will end up being, but they were fairly well thought of prospects at the time.
So apparantly I was called a homer by a Cards and Brewers fan for saying Martes can be a top 20 prospects in a few years.
Yea I suppose that is it He was just such a HUGE key in us staying afloat most of the summer. If he is going to pitch, i'd prefer it to be in a big league park
Few years? He very well could be top 20 next season. He is very young, good frame that has filled out, good athlete, has 3 plus pitches with a very easy and repeatable delivery. He is on his way to being a top prospect.
