And you didn't even mention the fact that 60% of the city was unable to watch them on TV for 2 solid years.

Houstunna: the longer you argue this topic, the dumber you look.

Yes, everyone would like larger crowds. But to keep complaining about them without acknowledging the many reasons why the crowds are low is a waste of all of our time.

It's easy to blame the fans for not showing up. It's also ignorant of the big picture.

There's nothing ludicrous in complaining about 16,000 in mid-August for a first place team.
One poster actually mentioned KC's low attendance last season as justification. Guess what?!? Houston's population almost triples KC's.

Another thing worth noting is how sorry of a baseball market NYC is. There's too many people there too (even having 2 teams) for their lack of attendance.

I suspect later this season and next year, MMP will be much better. Still think it should be better now, though. And Houston should have NHL and NASCAR.

Waves are even worse when its a half-filled stadium.

They should be outlawed and the people who start them should be shown on the jumbotron and booed mercilessly.

I found it comical that there was a wave again on Saturday night in a 1-1 game when the home team was batting... at the very least, save it for the opposing team.

And KC is now selling out every game.

Its strictly a function of how bad this team has been in the recent years. They weren't going to be that bad, for that long, and not have any lingering repercussions.

It definitely has very little to do with population density... the Rockets were drawing 9,000 for some games during the CHAMPIONSHIP season (and failed to sell out WCF games).

How you've been for awhile plays a big role in season ticket sales, which play a big role in overall crowds.

Already mentioned that along with saying THIS YEAR attendance will ball. I can't see Astros not selling out playoff games or late-Sept games if the team is in 1st.

Houston is still triple KC's size.

16,000 in this situation is sorry regardless of CSN and historical suckage.

Rockets won 55 games in the previous year ('93) and were never <.500 after Dream's rookie season. Mentioning '94 attendance makes the city look worse.

Regardless though, Houston should have NHL and NASCAR.

Do posters honestly disagree with that?

I'm not some outsider just trying to hate. Houston is good enough to do better.

Out of curiosity, how many games have you attended this season?

After 5 years of absolute garbage, the casuals weren't gonna come flying back in a few months, everybody expected that.

Poor showing in this series, but we've been averaging over 30K for the past 2 months, the fans are clearly coming back. Once word of mouth starts to get around the less than casual fans will start to show up.

Just proving that population size does not matter in terms of generating support... especially in Houston.

Houston has always been a front-running town. They'll always struggle to support a team that hasn't historically (or recently) been good... unless you're the Texans (which is more a direct result of this city actually losing a team, and overly-compensating to embrace the new one... in a league that is bigger than the other three sports leagues combined).

Houston will support the hell out of any non-NFL team once they prove it... and there's nothing wrong with that nor do I doubt this will change in my lifetime.

And the team not being on TV for 2 years.

I know I keep harping on that, but it's a huge part of it IMO. Out of sight, out of mind.

That's the way it is for most fan bases, not just ours. Fans will watch a winner, and will lose interest in a loser.

If you lose for an extended time, it will take more than a flash of success to bring them back.

Yes it is... but I will also say, Houston tends to require more "proving it" than most other average cities (see my 90's Rockets example), but the level of support/passion they offer when things are going good is also more-so than other average cities.

Yes, NASCAR (and NHL).... and I'm not a fan of either.

It's weak DFW has both of these MAJOR events, while Houston gets squat. Just more examples of us taking a back seat when it really isn't necessary. Houston is good enough to have both.

    Z-Ro

    Prove what?

There hasn't been many championships. You're really justifying WCF games not being sold-out for a team that won 55 games (franchise record IIRC) the previous season and was never <.500 for a decade  Try again.

Maybe you're saying fans are mad.... because truth is the Astros NEVER left sight. 790 broadcasts all their (and Rockets) games. When I didn't have cable I listened to all Rockets/Astors home games on the radio.... pre-game, post-game, everything.... pre-internet. Nowadays, there are computers everywhere. Saying they were "out-of-sight" is as weak as disowning the team for AL'ing.

Houstunna should go downtown on the 1 way streets and keep making left turns to get his Nascar fix.

So, Houstunna is constantly complaining about attendance, yet has attended ZERO games this year. What is keeping you away from MMP?

    Hectic schedule, thanks for asking

Funny, but if you truly believe NASCAR wouldn't improve the city, your skillz are JV.
