his post was from may of 2014... my rides today didn't really shave off much time, maybe about 6-7 minutes round trip. the buses seemed more occupied which is a good thing imo.
I'm hopeful the new method will be better. But, I was looking at the map shasta linked and the coverage looks pretty thin on the northeast side. What's up with that?
That's on purpose. The Southside got hit hard too by this. Essentially Metro is concentrating on the west side since that's where the growth is. It's sad but Metro wants to be more efficient so that just means more buses for the west side and less buses for everyone else.
I won't pull a Swoly and assume I can do the job better than the professionals at Metro. But it just seems to me like the residents of the minority-heavy and less affluent neighborhoods on the northeast side are more likely to rely on public transit than the average Houstonian. The only counterweight I can think of is that maybe that part of town has less population density. I'm sure Metro has thought about it a lot harder than I have, and I've no doubt that they just want to serve their entire city in just the best way they can. But the optics aren't great and I'd love to hear the rationale for the coverage as it pertains to that part of town.
