So grateful we have Gattis to DH and don't need him.

FWIW he now is hitting 385 with what has to be around a 500 OBP.

He hits hard line drives so I am not as worried about his BBIP as some players.

He can play. I know Morgan Ensberg thinks he is a savant when it comes to understanding hitting and preparation. Morgan has praised a number of players (he is huge on positive reinforcement) but there has been too many comments from coaches and other players. White may just be one of those Edgar Martinez, Bill Spiers, Carney Lansford type players that understand hitting to such a level that the lack of glove, wheels or pedigree don't matter when your batting average starts with a "3" and a crooked number or two after the "3".

Those 3 players have very little in common.

Yeah.... He is on his way to being a top 20 prospect in baseball and may get tge Tijuan Walker treatment of being top 5 as a 20 year old next year. He is throwing strikes, has physically filled out and his fastball is up 2-3 mph with a good feel for secondary stuff... A surprisingly good athlete too.

I didn't say they were carbon copies.... What they all did well was hit a baseball hard and typically a line drive. All three had an excellent feel for hitting and anticipating pitches.... I can throw others out there if you want. Some players go beyond their perceived physical limitations.

Gotcha, and fair enough. I did like you bringing up Carney Lansford. He was one of my favorites as a kid.

    Thinking he could be a Greg Maddux/Jason Jennings/Ezequiel Astacio-type guy. ;)

Ha... No just his approach to the game. He is fun to watch but there isn't a single guy that jumps out as a perfect comparison. Obviously it is highly unlikely he ever is Edgar Martinez.

The guy that is interesting to watch is AJ Reed.. He sometimes reminds me of Adam Dunn... A little Richie Sexton in there, and the ball of his bat is kind of like Jim Thome. Not saying he will ever be that good but he does things like shift his body weight like Thome and has similar hips. He has the eye of Dunn and like Dunn he misses fastballs right down the strike zone. He has a body like Sexton since he has started to tone up... but a way better approach.

This situation with Francis Martes is getting serious. Any 19 year old dominating is impressive, doing it at High A is really impressive, doing it in the California league is bordering on astonishing.

If he finishes out the year in this manner he's gonna be our top prospect, and he's likely gonna be a top 25 overall. At this point even if he falters a little, he seems to be a safe bet to be top 100.

Wow, the trade that keeps getting better each time it is revisited.

Cosart, Hernandez, Wates for Moran, Marinsick, Martes, and (Cameron)....

Now it seems that Martes is ready to show he is a big time prospect!

Tyler White's .455 BABIP through 173 PAs in AAA is the highest I've ever seen. Holy moly.

Even when he cools off, though, he's probably a .300-.320 hitter in AAA that limits strikeouts. I'll take that any day, especially if there's any more power to squeeze out of his swing.

For this season or next, though, I wouldn't mind seeing Matt Duffy get some big league time. He may be our next utility infielder, or, even better, our 3rd baseman.

But did they though? I don't remember if there were smaller pieces to the deal, but I remember Folty and Ruiz being the two headlining pieces going to the Braves. I actually felt at the time that losing Ruiz would end up stinging the most, but I read recently that he's been struggling this year. As it stands now, I don't think our minor league talent and depth took a huge hit with the loss of Folty and Ruiz.

I think Gattis was a calculated risk, which unfortunately has not worked out. I would still take the chance and do the deal again if I am the Astros, but thus far it hasn't really worked out for either team. The acquisition cost alone does not prevent me from pulling the cord on the experiment, if we come across a more-than-marginal upgrade in the offseason.

Traded by Atlanta with James Hoyt for Rio Ruiz, Andrew Thurman and Mike Foltynewicz.

Thank you sir. You are a machine (probably literally). You and tellitlikeitis do wonderful work, so this is another chance to thank y'all for making this Astros' section awesome.

Yeah, I'm not losing sleep over any of the prospects we lost. They are talented, so I am not trying to dismiss them or anything, but we still have a tremendously talented farm system. Heck, James Hoyt might be the best piece out of the entire deal, haha! I've heard good things about him, and he could help our bullpen as soon as this year if the front office really wanted to make it happen.

There was a 26 MPH wind blowing out to center field last night in Lancaster, but it didn't faze Martes.

I imagine this is the "get your rust knocked off before coming back up" start.

Why are we having McCullers and Velasquez go to AA instead of AAA? Simply due to proximity to Houston?

Looks like Milb.com box scores are confusing P. Sandoval and E. Sandoval again. At this point, I can't reliability tell when P. Sandoval pitches.
