I think he gets his shot next year. Guy was so damn raw last year, the leap he's made to this year alone is huge. Those video goggles he's wearing must be really helping him progress.
There is something about him that I really likeā¦and it makes me feel confident in him. I can't pinpoint why I feel the way I do, but I do. I think starting next year, he will really make it difficult for coaches to keep him off the field.
I wasn't high on Hilliard at the draft, but the guy has me like him from what I've heard from camp and see tonight. Dude is just getting north very fast, and is laying hits on anyone trying to tackle him.
Mancz still having snap exchange issues. Been something of a problem throughout camp. Him and Savage were practicing it on the sidelines prior to this drive, and it still showed up. I'm actually high on Mancz, but he needs at least one redshirt year.
that's what cha get for wishing a biblical flood upon our city! this is our m'f' ing city! ahhhhh. oh it's preseason.
Good game. Very solid QB play. I think they sat Hoyer to fire up Mallet. Mallet and Savage looked the best to me, considering what they worked with. Oline depth is a major issue. Starters were solid, but behind them there isn't much. Couldn't really judge the RBs that well considering the lack of push from the line. But Hilliard to me was the most impressive. Besides Blue's long run, he didn't do much, and Polk is good in space. Grimes didn't show anything. LB's looked bad all around. Lots of mistakes, probably due to lack of vets playing. DBs made a couple bad plays, but nice overall. WR depth looks amazing. Some backup Dline showed up, want to see more though. Return game could be good if they can get the runners protection.
The QB play was solid for the most part, Savage was off target a bit occasionally but seems to have improved dramatically over last year. I'll want to see some more down the field passing from Mallett going forward, but he did a pretty good job finding open receivers basically every time he was called on to pass the ball. I like the receiving depth a lot.

Savage looked good hitting his first read with accuracy. I still haven't seen him go through progressions which will get him killed in a real game. Both Hoyer and Mallett looked solid and good enough to win with. The key will be if the line can open up consistent holes for the running back by committee which is suspect with XSF looking like a complete bust. Someone is going to have to step up a play serviceable guard.
Lol, You're calling a guy a complete bust that hasn't played his 2nd season yet. The NFL is a huge leap, and while they may have overdrafted him based off their evaluation, You need to take a look back at previous oline picks we've had that were not good their first year or two. Duane Brown being one. As well as Newton. ****, Myers wasn't good until his 4th/5th year. It takes time. People here jump to conclusions so early about players in the NFL, and none of them have any clue on how hard it is to transition. At a bare minimum you have to give a guy 3 years to truly decide if he was worth his selection in the draft.
