The biggest offensive addition after the all star break has been Lowrie. Gomez is pretty much more of the same with high strike outs, low average and some pop. Marisnick hasn't really helped his cause when he has gotten playing time either so expect Gomez to keep being sent out there. The bottom line is this lineup right now is one of the worse lineups in mlb despite all the HRs. With the all or nothing approach, HRs were going to go up this year but it's not an overall good hitting team and can be shut down quite easily at times. The starting pitching is good enough to contend but the offense is not. Bullpen is becoming more of a question mark as the season goes along as well.
1-29? Gomez still feels sexy. Looking for offense? Not sure you turn to Marisnick but whatever, sure, why not?
No doubt, he sucks, especially at the plate. I'm not claiming Marisnick as our savior in centerfield. But at this point, he can't be much worse than Gomez.
Even with the current slump Gomez has a .723 OPS this year and Marisnick has a .617 OPS. So yes, he can be much worse than Gomez. Feel free to make up some stats and inductively reason your way to bolster your nonsense.
That's all the matters! Getting a little worried about the Rangers though, they seem to playing better.
it is worse. That's how sample sizes tend to work. Also, we've already established the full season stats If we want to go back to previous years and make the samples even bigger, we'll see that Gomez actually has a real ceiling to aspire to--providing more of a reason to play him
Gomez has an OPS under .550 with the Astros. Right now, no it isn't out of the realm of possibility for Marisnick to be better for this team for a few games. 1. Gomez is playing atrocious baseball. 2. Marisnick is playing bad baseball. 3. Marisnick could play better baseball for a few games than Gomez. Using inductive reasoning, I can conclude that it might not be a bad idea to let Gomez sit a couple of games and put Marisnick back in the lineup.
i'm not saying we should go back further. I was just suggesting that, in case you wanted to take your argument about sample sizes in other weird directions, Gomez wins there too

Not a bad idea but they did have a day off Thursday and they have another day off next Thursday. I think more than a day off they need to get him to relax. He looks like he's pressing because he wants to help the team so much. He needs to trust his talent and just relax, hopefully soon. He can be a huge part of the lineup if he gets going.
The bold is a good point, and you are probably right. Hopefully, he relaxes soon, and my "inductive reasoning" proves to be incorrect. The team needs him to perform like a cleanup hitter. Lowrie is good, but he isn't a cleanup hitter. We need someone with some 20-30 homerun and close to 100 rbi power to hit behind Correa. He is the perfect guy to have hitting 3 and with Springer and Altuve we have our 1 and 2 respectively. Now, we need a cleanup hitter and desperately need Gomez to fill that hole. Him failing to do that and causing the Astros to let their lead in the West slip like it has is what has me so frustrated with him. We NEED Gomez to live up to the trade. Badly.
In my lineup with springer I don't have Gattis playing a and Gomez hitting 7th. Right now I would have Conger dh and hitting 5th or 6th.
