Not the best thing of course but nothing else to go on. Some of these single A fields are really ****ty but its still worth noting.

Franklin Perez, a Venezuelan RHP who also signed for $1 million in the previous July 2 IFA period like Miguelangel Sierra, threw 3 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits and struck out 2 in his first GCL appearance.

Pitcher just made a great double play with Pujols hitting with bases loaded and 1 out.

Max Stassi is pretty bad. Never understood the hype around him

Were you around for that stretch a couple years ago when he was seemingly hitting a home run every day?

When a player who can stay at catcher produces above A ball it gets attention, and in 2013 he posted an .863 OPS in AA. He also threw out 37% of base stealers, and in general had the rep of a good defensive catcher. He also had a decent season in 2012, so that year didn't seem like a complete fluke.

Unfortunately he hasn't been able to repeat his success that year. At this point it seems he's probably gonna get his walking papers after this season.

I am curious to see who the organization does protect at catcher. Both Tyler Heineman and Alfredo Gonzalez are possible Rule 5 losses. Do we protect both, or try and trade one of them for whatever we can get. One of them is basically a guarantee to be protected because teams need 3 catchers on the 40 man.

Speaking of Rule 5 candidates. Andrew Aplin doing his best Lance Berkman impersonation.

He could probably help us in September. Great defensive player, good runner, and walks a ton. He hasn't been able to hit for average or power so his upside seems very limited. Jake Marisnick would seem to make him a bit redundant on top of the more important fact of him not being on the 40 man. I could see an NL team scooping him up in the Rule 5 if we don't protect him.

Max Stassi also hasn't been the same since he got drilled in the face with a fastball a couple of years ago.

Any thoughts on Chase McDonald? Realize he's at Lancaster and not exactly young but he's been catching my eye

    22 HR 62. RBI .295 BA .379 OBP

He's got a lot of guys in his way but you gotta think he'll have some sort of trade value if he can continue to hit like this.

Then you werent paying enough attention. He had a crazy streak...when you're young, you're a catcher, and you hit like that, then there should be hype.

He's apparently incredibly unathletic: I saw a scout tweet recently that McDonald had one of the slowest times from home to first that he's ever seen.

So he'll have to keep hitting at an elite level to have a future, and given the fact that he's 23 years old in A+, there's no reason to get very excited yet. If he puts up legit numbers at AA or above, then things get interesting...

I know nothing about his situation, but I do wonder if any of his struggles are mental. He wouldn't be the first, coming back from something like that.
