Signing Terry is potentially hard capping us and he will take flexibility over anything. Don't forget, we had two veterans and either one of them would've been fine but we will lose both..
You do realize we can't go "all in" with Dmo and Jones set to enter FA next year, right? the PF spot is still a question mark going forward...makes no sense to lock in a third string pg regardless, but especially under those circumstances....and we gained a starting PG and technically improved our back up spot tremendously. Terry and Prigioni aren't as important this year.
Trade for Lin, Lawson can back him up and then Beverley will become the best 3rd string PG the league has ever seen. Seriously if yall thought Beverley intensity was crazy, wait till you see how intense he would be getting 4mpg!!!
My point is the flexibility is not just to get a third star, as you suggested, but to handle the PF situation. Also, the Lawson situation isn't set either. He may work out perfectly and we'd want him long term or it may be a disaster. If we keep him, then there's obviously less need for a third star. There's absolutely no reason to give in to a third string PG, in our current situation.
Well seeing we just traded a first rounder for a potential alcoholic point guard and are nearly hard-capped, I'd say we are pretty much all in at this point. I'd also argue that hard capping for a third string point while we have two of the best ball handlers in the NBA isn't very smart.
Only reason i bring Luke Ridnour name up is hes a vet who could be had at the bare min. and would be good for a small role if or when lawson might be suspended or might have some player personal time off if he's not still ready. I mean nobody knows if this version of Lawson has fully recovered, and he could pull some sort of obscene distraction at some time(Rockets would have to get him squared away again in time for the playoffs), and they would be stuck with no backup pg in this time frame. To me he would be a good option/insurance for a deep playoff team who needs a pg to bring the ball up and secure the passes to the right players. Not turnover prone like some young rookie would be... Beverely could get injured or even Lawson... So i think its important to get a cheap quality 3rd guard.
I wish we had grabbed Shabazz Napier.... what did Orlando give up? a protected second round pick? I'd like to have him on his rookie scale contract for the next 3 years....
