I would doubt it. He's still going to be worth close to $10M as a solid veteran catcher, and I'd guess he gets less in arbitration. I think the team will look to move him in the offseason. Only downside is the only minor league catcher hitting worth a damn this year is now in Oakland. Roberto Pena could be here to be a defensive star, but with a bat that makes Ausmus look like Mike Piazza. Stassi maybe could replace Castro's production, but that is a big if. Heineman is solid with the glove, and doesn't strike out, but doesn't walk enough and has no power.
As much as it was boosted by the recent surge, Castro is still solidly in the middle of the pack as an offensive catcher. There are 13 catchers in baseball with as many at bats as Castro and a higher OPS. When you watch a team everyday, pretty much anyone other than the true all-stars are gonna be looked at lower than their actual worth by many of that teams fans, as we are just judging what we "see" and we aren't watching other teams players on a daily basis. Seeing that he is solid defensively and middle of the pack offensively, I don't think they look to move him unless they have already added someone they think is better. And yes next year is his last of arbitration, likely looking at around 6 million in arbitration, then Free Agency the year after. This seems to be the only position in the system without a legit high upside prospect.
Bregman's arm is not good enough for 3rd. Correa would move off most likely, which is fine... saves his legs a little bit.
LOL.... he's 20! He's 6 months younger than Bregman. Odds are, Bregman is not going to be an all-world/HOF caliber player that Correa is currently on track to be... a lot can happen between now and then (including the small possibility of Carlos fizzling out) , but that would be an amazing problem for the Astros to have.
IMO, Bregman is the 2nd baseman of the future. Correa is too good to move. As good as Bregman might be, he likely isn't in the same stratosphere as what Correa is already showing and what he is likely capable of.
Id put my money on Bregman never cracking this roster without injuries. More likely he gets traded. Looks pretty raw for a college guy. Bad baserunning, 9 errors already, no power. Going to have to improve on what hes doing now.
Guys, Correa moving to 3rd would not be a bad thing at all. Would allow him to fill out even more, don't have to worry about range issues, arm would be a huge advantage, etc. He is good enough to stick at SS through his 20s but when you have Bregman why bother?

Not sure what he's too far off if you look through the vitriol. He's likely not going to replace Correa without injury and is likely most valuable at SS. That screams trade to me as he rises through the ranks. I don't think he's raw for a college player, but I've not seen him as a great base runner or having much power. He's going to need to improve which is generally the case for people in Lancaster. Granted, I like contact skills so I am interested to see how he progresses.
How did I express any vitriol in that post? If I had said Bregman is a midget who ****s ugly girls, cut him, Maybe. All I did was state a few facts, and my opinion that he is more likely to be traded than crack the roster.
Bregman is being block at the MLB level Might be true right now, but it really is such a good predicament to be in!!! The possibilities are everywhere! OF: Springer, Gomez, K. Tucker, Cameron, Bregman, etc..... 3rd Base: Moran, Davis, ..... 2nd Base: Altuve, Bregman...... SS: Correa, Breman...... 1st Base: Reed, Singleton....... DH: Gattis, Bregman, and pretty much any prospect that can hit...... Having a strong minor league farm system, is good in the sense that it helps keep cost down, keeps the competitive pressure on the current major league players, and helps team morale in that those delivering effort know that someone can come up to replace those that are slacking off.......
When Correa's "filling out" starts to noticeably decrease his range to the point where a move from SS would be more beneficial to all parties involved... you do it. Till then, he's this team's SS regardless of who we have in the minors.
