At the beginning no one thought about the playoffs, we should not think that if we don't make it we had a bad year. I want to play over .500, that is my goal from now on, as it was at the beginning. This team needs some changes to be a real playoff contender. 1. Closer 2. First basemen (forget about Carter) 3. What do we do with Gattis? 4. We have 2 young guys on the rotation that are on a pitch count, so they will probably not help much the rest of the year. These 2 guys are going to be very important for us in the future, same as Appel. We are a young team, and is going to be difficult to make it, if we do GREAT, if not, lets play .500 and over and wait for next year where we will have NO EXCUSE.
Well, Mark, you don't but ALLOW others to speak their mind. Look, there is a difference between public person and private person. The Astros are a public institution, and we can talk about them as they are. If you are unable, even tough you are not using your name, so be it, but let other people speak their minds.
up until the all star break, familia was lights out. he only recently started struggling, but he's still young, and has appeared to get back on track. no one would take luke over familia. one of his blown saves was also due to poor management by collins, leaving him in after a 45 min rain delay. he's still 30/35 while luke is 22/28. casilla has been horrible this year, but he's still a world series champ soria struggled, and was turned into a set up guy, which is what luke should be. the astros clearly didn't even trust him, hence why they wanted to get kimbrel or chapman. the point is moot anyways, seeing as we're unlikely to replace him. i'm not sure how many blown saves it'll take for you to realize he isn't closer material though. dude is closing at 78.7%. almost every single closer in baseball is converting at a better percentage. he's in the bottom 5.
We don't have a closer, is Luthnow fault? No, he tried to bring Miller and Robertson and they did not wanted to sign here. After that he went after Gregerson and Neshek. They've done great, but Greg is just not a closer, he is a 8 inning guy. Imagine this bullpen with Neshek 7th, Gregerson 8 and closer 9. With Fields in the 6 with Harris and Sipp? One guy in the bullpen would make a huge difference. That is something we need to accomplish this offseason.
Agree, why Gregerson is not a closer? Because lefties are hitting almost .250, that is a high average for a closer. Now, righties hit under .200. He is a set up guy, to pitch vs righties.
no it's not his fault. he tried to get a closer at the deadline, but the padres GM is a clown. and i'm not sure what we offered for chapman. someone mentioned K-Rod earlier, I'd love to get him if we could
Calm down people. Calm down. It's ok, there is nothing wrong. Just relax! This is just a young team learning how to lose err I mean win. Breeeathe!
Well he made it known he works for the Astros so he's not hiding and the Astros have a strict policy about employee behavior on the internet. I think you mentioned that you're a lawyer? You wouldn't blast your law firm on the internet because you thought they blew a high profile court case, would you?
This team... idk. Could win the WS. Could miss the playoffs. This year has been a surprise and I'm happy about that. But I've been given a taste... I'm okay without a championship but I desperately want the playoffs. More-so, the division. A 1 game playoff after 162 games is such b.s.
i think it creates a lot of excitement and drama so i have no problem with it, although it would suck if we had to play the blue jays in a one game playoff. hope at least one of us wins the divisoin.
Lol, I trust him now more than Gregerson at this point. Qualls isn't the answer either though even though he has been much better lately. VV will probably be asked to come on and close games or someone else in the minors. Like I keep saying, I trust closers more who got dominant stuff who can miss some bats. Gregerson strikes no fear in other ball clubs.
I wasn't expecting to make the playoffs this season. This team has been in first in the division most of the year. It would be kind of disappointing if they missed the playoffs.
