Even when you're right your arguments make almost no sense.

Per 36 stats are useful. Certainly you have to take it with a grain of salt if a player only plays 20 minutes per game.

But D-Mo plays nearly 30 minutes per game. He plays enough minutes where his per 36 numbers can be compared to those who play 5 minutes more per game.

It is a rate stat. Just divide it by 36 if you don't understand the simple math concept of rate.

    bmd and Joe Joe,

The stat is misused because people say, "If Motie got 36 mpg this is what he'd produce." That doesn't work because only Davis actually plays 36 mpg, and only the top 5 elite PFs play in the 35 minute range. That's what makes it useless. DMo is not elite, so don't expect him to ever get over 34 mpg.

It is also misused, because you must increase everyone, except Davis. Once you increase everyone, then Motie looks even worse than he is. He gets passed on offense by even the Ibaka and Faried's of the NBA, making it an exercise DMo fans really shouldn't be doing.

Here is some stats for y'all.

I looked at every game last season where D-Mo played at least 30 minutes. There was 37 games where he played 30 minutes or more.

    In those games he averaged:

    34:16 minutes

    17.3 points

    7.5 rebounds

So what that says is that D-Mo can put up numbers when he plays lots of minutes. It's not like taking a guy playing 15 minutes per game and extrapolating that to 36 minutes. D-Mo has shown that he can play many minutes and score and rebound at a similar rate.

I can't edit, but that reads poorly. I should have said "Here *ARE* some stats..." and "There *WERE 37 games..."

No it doesn't say that. It says when he's having a good game, then Coach keeps him in longer. If you run the games when the Elite players are playing well, they will be over 35 ppg.

Only the Top 5 elite PF in the NBA average 34.4 to 36 mpg.

You still dont understand? 36mpg doesnt mean that motie playing 36mpg will produce those stats, it his production rate, You can divide it by 36, and you will get his production rate playing 1minute. Why is everyone using 36mpg, because its convenient mpg for starter to compare player production rate. Other people uses 48mpg or 100possesion stats as well, but it doesnt mean player will play 48mpg.

Thats not entirely true because there were many games where D-Mo did not have a particularly great game and he played more than 30 minutes.

There were 13 games where he had 12 points or less, and 15 games where he had 6 rebounds or less.

Not necessary. DMo might be having good game but Coach decides to use other players, or he might be having bad game, but Coach wants him to shoot thru his slump. You just cant assume Coach is giving him more minutes just because hes playing well, there are far more variables in Basketball than that.

    Exactly.

It's basically showing how much production you are getting out of a player per every minute they are on the court.

So if player A plays 20 minutes and averages 15 points per 36 and player B plays 40 minutes and averages 15 points per 36, that means both players average the same amount of points for their time on the court.

When player A and player B are both in the game, they are both producing at the same rate.

Nearly every player on this list shoots the ball more per 36 AND has a higher usage than Dmo.

    Not surprised they score more.

Oh yes, I do understand. I also understand none of the DMo fans who preach this are applying the 36 mpg numbers to anyone else in a DMo class of players. If you did, then you'd see that it merely shows he's average, because everyone increases with him

Run the numbers on ALL PF/C who qualify for mpg leaderboard and post DMo's PTs and Rebound numbers.

Exactly, the >30 experiment encapsulates his highest scoring games and rebounds and sheds his worse <20 mpg. Of course that will increase your numbers. And like all actual increased minutes experiments will show, it will lower his efficiency over the season.

When you run Griffin's >40 mpg numbers he's 30/10/5 asts. That's like legendary numbers.

AND rebound more! DMo is 73rd in the league in rebounds per 36 (for qualifying players only).

What you're saying is the LOF argument: "If Coach would just utilize DMo more...blah blah blah" Players who have more usage, get more usage for a reason. Rockets got #2 seed and went to WCF with usage patters as is. And now we have Lawson. But i can see how it's fun to play with stats like you do, to make up alternative realities.

SMH, things will be so much better this time next year when DMo is even more established than he is now so that we won't have (as many) threads like this. It's just embarrassing.

So you are saying Faried is better scorer than DMo right (i bet Faried is still having nightmares about him gettting abused though)? Or what you are saying? I havent really seen many people spouting DMo 36mpg stats, what i seen are people saying DMo is best postup score in NBA (which he arguably is), excellent 3pt shooter (after allstars shooting 45% 3pt) and average/good defender.

D-Mo played 37 games at more than 30 minutes. How many did Blake Griffin play over 40? I'll answer it for you. Only 6.

Actually DMo told in an interview recently that he thinks Griffin is Best PF in the league by far, so i guess DMo agrees with your statement about Griffin.
