He's got a good shot at top-10 consideration in C-Span Historian surveys.

I think he's going to start off in the 15-20 range and steadily move up.

You can send the boy to college but a Confederate upbringing is hard to discard.

Well, after that debate performance, I think it just about sealed his fate.

I am not disrespecting his service, just saying he is no more a war hero than any other vet who got captured or was in the line of fire. That's all. That's not disrespect, it's just an unwillingness to elevate him above others. I don't know why that makes me a neocon or anything else. Maybe let's just agree to disagree and move on. This is just silly at this point.

Question: do you choose to be ignorant about history or are you simply ignorant that you are ignorant about history? If the former, then you're a disgrace. If the latter, then we understand and pity you.

But, really, it's probably the former. You have no factual basis to make that statement- and if you do try to provide facts, since you are making a superlative judgment (that means you're using the term "worst"), then you would need to provide side-by-side evidence from the other 43 b/c only then would your argument hold water.

You'd have to prove that Obama was worse than: (1) Arthur, (2) Hoover, and (3) Warren Harding, for starters. Which I am 100% certain you cannot do. In terms of influence, impact, etc., Obama is going to be ranked high, and your personal opinion will not change that one iota.

For this alone, for this alone, Obama is nowhere near the worst:

You should be thorougly, utterly, completely, unequivocably EMBARRASSED that you lack such knowledge about American history to make the proclamations you do. It's like the rest of us are advanced scholars and you are a pre-neophyte. Or in your words, put your big boy pants on and step up your game, son...because right now, your LilliputianTexxx attempts to discredit Obama make us all look bad.

Great article. Please read. It's amazing how many people are taking this seriously, even - no, especially - some liberals. This is just a sideshow and is not indicative of anything substantial.

    haha, you wish...but nope.

You'll be getting a lot more Trump before it's done. And it's just grand.

The substantial part of it is that the party that embraces the logically absurd such as birtherism, creationism, climate change denialism, economic nihlism, health care reform as slavery or nazism, government shutdowns, neo-confederatism, Ron Paul and all manner of other things that are just plain wrong and dumb and stupid,

....is currently being dominated by an absurd candidate.

Good ol' boy Bobby P. Jindal said it the best years ago when he said the GOP has to "stop being the stupid party"

Instead they have doubled down on stupid, with Jindal himself, last seen ridding Louisiana of a functional set of governing institutiions while putting Jesus Horse textbooks into schools, being one of the lead dog stupid-implementers

You reap what you sow, and this clown car of a GOP primary process - which, contrary to the author's insistence is both qualitatively and quantitatively different from the last few rounds of clown shows - is what has been planted with 12 years of migration to the extreme right.

I'm beginning to be kind of fascinated at how much of a train wreck President Trump could be. He's such a unique combination of narcissist and buffoon among people who make it this close to the top. Part of me wants to rubberneck a Trump Presidency. He could so easily overreact his way into so much misery and I don't think he'd lose a minute of sleep over it.

Maybe he can call up Khamenei and tell him, "You're Fired!" on national TV right before nuking Iran.

It seemed rather obvious that Fox News was trying to go after Trump last night, truly a tool of the Republican Party.

Also, I'm surprised by some of the reactions to Trump last night. He didn't do anything last night that he hasn't been doing for a couple of weeks. The people who supported Trump before last night are now talking about how crazy and angry Trump came off last night. Well, duh.

I think the fact that Fox News was so overt in their bias and hatred of Trump that Trump's supporters will dig in even deeper. If they didn't want Trump to make a run as an independent, they sure went about it in a strange way last night.

Very sad to see the state of insecurity and inadequacy on this board. Luckily the rest of the country isn't made up of neckbeards who hide away on message boards.

Donald was absolutely attacked by transgender Megyn Kelly and still responded with his usual candor and charm. He gets that there's a new base - it's not the old stuffy white guy running things for the GOP anymore. We'll see a lot of democrats vote for Donald if he runs - he doesn't have to lose his pair and cater to party lines.

Attacked by using his own words against him. I guess being a loose cannon isn't always sunshine and rainbows.

I said this in the debate thread too. I don't think this debate will hurt Trump. While this certainly would hurt him with GOP stalwarts most party stalwarts would've already been aware of Trump's political history and probably not have supported him from the beginning. Trump delivered on what people suspected. He entertained and turned what would've been a staid rehashing of talking points and party orthodoxy into spectacle.

I still don't believe that Trump himself is serious about being president. From what I've heard he still hasn't really built an organization to win delegates in caucus and small states and as Obama showed in 2008 you can't just rely on winning large primaries to win the nomination.

Just speculating though if Trump really want's to be President he could go two routes. The one is he could just keep doing what he is doing or he might actually pick a VP and cabinet that could do the job of running a country while he stays as a celebrity President. Comparing to Trump to Jesse Ventura when he became of governor of MN. He did it in similar ways to Trump by capitalizing on his celebrity. Once in office though he appointed some very competent people to run the state and many have given Ventura credit for an effective state government that truly was based on merit and not on party politics. About the only thing that was bad and distracting about the Ventura Administration was Jesse Ventura himself.

I would hope if Trump does happen to win that being a smart businessman he would understand that he actually needs people who know what they're doing. Of course the opposite could be true and he could just go all the way with making a lot of noise and entertainment. My business partner and I were thinking that if Trump won the nomination he would have a special Apprentice to pick his VP.
