Funny thing is coming out of college most experts had Marcus going higher than Kieff. Cus was seen as a Melo lite 3 while Kieff just an undersize tweener

If the Rockets drafted Kawhi Leonard, I'm pretty sure he would have been traded before he had any opportunity to prove himself. Morey doesn't know anything about basketball. He just numbers on his computer that he thinks means something. The biggest problem with analytics in basketball is that it is very conditional and non-deterministic and therefore hard to predict when players are put in different settings and teammates. In baseball, no matter how good you are, you still only get to bat 1 time per 9 team at bats. In basketball, you can decide how many times you run plays through whichever players you want. So while sabremetrics are very effective in baseball, basketball is a completely different animal.

For example, Pablo Prigioni is a 40% three point shooter and actually shot 46% one season on the Knicks. But last year, he shot 28% on the Rockets. This could mean that he is a very good 3 point shooter if he picks and chooses and only shoots when he's wide open. On the Rockets, something was different whether it be the rotations or just the shot quality. Who knows. But every combination makes a big difference and it makes it nearly impossible to purely utilize analytics in any basketball decision for this very reason.

Comments like this are so strange. Even with Morey's track record for discovering players in YMCA rec leagues, some fans still think he doesn't evaluate talent effectively.

Markieff has an inch and around 20-25 lbs on Marcus.

He seems to do better with 2nd rounders.

Actually I called Prigs 3 point shooting fools gold as soon as he landed here to all the people here saying "oh wow he is a 40% 3 point shooter"

40% 3 point shooter on 1 made 3 a game probably in garbage time is nothing substantial

It all depends on context. Analytics without context is almost worthless

Having said that saying Morey doesn't know anything about basketball is just as preposterous a the homers saying Morey can do no wrong and is da gawd. As always the truth lies somewhere in between.

Morey is an average to above average GM not a great GM or top 3 GM as most here would say. He has had several busts in the 1st round of drafts and some good picks in the 2nd round.

Told ya'll. Horny lost his voice last year.

The Morris twins were some of the leaders.

Bledsoe is silent. It's a bad situation, but maybe Tyson can fix the damage.

Gerald Green will tell you...those are some heated practices.

This post is 10 years out of date. Basketball analytics is not baseball, but no one analyzes it like baseball anymore.
