This is a weird topic, but I was too young to remember Brooks that well when he played for the Rockets. My dad always liked him for some reason, and he was his favorite player, even though he seemed pretty scrubbish. Can anyone post any info about this guy, or does anyone have any interesting stories about him?
Scrubbish?? Scottie Brooks was behind the Rockets power dancers on the depth chart at point guard! The Rockets had a pretty nice promotion going on during those years...If Houston got 110 points OR Scottie Brooks got a shot attempt, everyone in the arena got a free Big Mac... ------------------ Mein bratwurst has a first name, it's F-R-I-T-Z Mein bratwurst has a second name, it's S-C-H-N-A-C-K-E-N-P-F-E-F-F-E-R-H-A-U-S-E-N
Scottie Brooks! I think Bill used to call him the Energizer Bunny. Brooks was great, but he had the worst looking shot I've ever seen. ------------------ the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.
While Brooks might have been low on the depth chart after Cassell came into his own, he actually got a lot of PT before that. Inexplicably, Rudy often played Brooks the entire fourth quarter while sitting Kenny Smith. I agree that Brooks was a scrub (he looked like he could barely make a pass over taller, quicker NBA players), but he actually got significant PT on some pretty good Rockets teams. ------------------
Man y'all are brutal to poor Scottie. He was a good backup to Kenny. Pushed the tempo. The Rockets had some obscenely great record when he played the entire 4th quarter. Still, his stint as Houston's backup PG was just a little more than one season. But your dad probably liked him because he looked like an ordinary guy. Average height, not especially quick, not a leaper. He looked like some rec leaguer out there, but he found a way to produce. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. Scott Brooks was a pretty signigicant piece of the puzzle in the 1993 team that lost to the Sonics in 7 games, just missing the West Conf Finals. ------------------
I don't know why brooks was so effective in the 4th, but he was. So many times Kenny Smith would be ineffective, and Brooks would come in and "lead" the Rockets to a win. He used to hit some ugly 3's... I remember that. He would be standing like 3 feet behind the line, and still hit the shot. Well, I remember it happening at least twice . ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
According to RK's link, Brooks only played 28 games for us. ------------------ President of the CC.net Realist Club, everyone needs a dose of reality once in a while...

1 year removed from highschool. Can't wait til we get the texans! michael vick should return to school so we can take him in the draft! always liked scotty the player.
Don't take the wrong way, but he was huge cheerleader on the bench. He got the whole bench up during games. Which is why he became a solid coach. Good point guard too. Serviceable and likeable.
I remember them interviewing him postgame when he was traded. Looked like he was really choked up about it.
He was used as the back up PG when Rudy T first became the coach. He did a great job at that position too, but then Sam Cassell joined and his days were numbered.
