Not talking about school districts.... but small schools, daycares, and independent private schools don't necessarily have "teams" of weather trackers making those decisions.
No one needs a "team" of weather trackers and I doubt there are a significant number of people who would rely on Channel 2 for making decisions on whether they should hold classes or open their businesses. The NWS gives the appropriate warnings and watches that are communicated in a variety of ways these days.
That's great... I'm telling you that people DO actually pay attention to the news in part to help make these decisions. They're basically saying the same thing the NWS says... but taking it to another level. Its also why you saw some businesses stay open earlier this week (several in Galveston, including the hospital/clinics), and some decided to close. I'm not saying its "smart"... but I'm also saying the news needs to be better.

Crazy swing here in HOU. Below avg temp and massive rain in May and June. Not a single drop of rain in July with the avg hovering 100 for the past 2 weeks. I sure hope we don't have a repeat of Aug 2011.
