Saying big game hunting helps find conservation in Africa is like saying child sex tourism helps feed and clothe the children of Thailand. Technically its correct, I guess.

Just because something is a capable of killing humans (btw, lion's don't behave toward humans the way you describe) doesn't mean everyone thinks it's OK to kill them for funsies.

If you donate to the NAACP it means you get to punch one person of color. That's how it works.

You say that they don't behave toward humans the way I describe, but tell that to the families of the 250 or so people who are killed by lions every year.

I don't think people should be hunting threatened species (African Lions are not officially endangered as some have claimed) but hunting isn't the main reason lions are struggling to stay alive.

It's getting sadder. I don't think I can read anymore developing stories on this. Damn.

They are threatened. No one stated that they are 'endangered'. 'Endangered' is a subset category of 'threatened'. They are one step away from 'endangered' though.

    This is approaching Onion territory.

Your statement was ignorant at best. They're not some human killing scourge.

    Irrelevant.

When talking to an imbecile, those types of responses should be expected.

Lions do kill about 250 humans per year. That's just a fact. By all means, feel free to cry your eyes out about the death of a predator but you only make yourself look foolish when you call an entirely factual statement "ignorant". In fact, if you think a lion wouldn't eat you if it was hungry and had the opportunity....well that's pretty ignorant.

Sharks kill about 5, but nobody seems to give a damn about "hunting" pressure causing a critical drop in their populations. They're just not cuddly enough.

If people really want to worry about an endangered big cat, look at the plight of the tiger in Asia (the true king of the jungle). They're getting poached left and right so a bunch of rich Asian dudes can get hardons, or better eyesight, or whatever bullsh!t traditional remedy they're using the parts for.

Disclaimer: trophy hunting is borderline unethical, trophy hunting threatened animals is unconscionable, this guy should be extradited if he knowingly broke the law, 89.4% of twitter users need to be punched in the face.

Agreed on all points. Breaking the law is breaking the law. If the dentist faces charges over this, so be it, I was just saying that someone shooting a lion isn't something that is going to make me lose any sleep. There are much more endangered animals out there being hunted, many of which aren't predators with a long history of eating humans.

Hell I'd be more sympathetic if one of the main reasons for the decline in lion population was hunting, but that's a very small part of what is doing them in.

Shark finning really is a messed up thing to do. I think people would care less if they were just overfishing causing the drop in their population but cutting the fins off and throwing them back? That's just cruel.

Lordy. Now the wingnuts are claiming self defense to support the douche bag dentist. He felt threatened by lions in Minnesota. Stand Your Ground.

OK. African lions, the specific animal we're talking about, are only responsible for 70 of those. Not that either number makes them some menace.

    This is what you said.

    This is not true.

    Don't double down on it.

Well now you've moved the goal posts and changed your assertion. Pretty much the hallmark of someone that has lost an argument. Think a little longer (or at least do a google search) before you speak next time, Bobberino.

LOL, moving the goalposts? C'mon man, you're probably better than that. The difference between the two statements was that I said in the second statement that the lion was hungry. That's the only difference....and you should have assumed hunger in the first place when talking about any non-human predator killing.

Of course none of that is relevant to the original statement because I was pointing out that I'm not going to get worked up over the death of a single predator.

Are you just trying to be difficult?
