Reasons for the loss: 1. CArlos Gomez. With Marisnick we have won last night. The play Gomez did not make, Marisnick makes is easily. We are used (spoiled) to see maybe the BEST center fielder (defensively) in Marisnick. He makes all the plays and even improved big time with his arm. 2. First 2 hitters, combined 0 for 10 in the game, ouch 3. Relievers Is going to be difficult to win the series as they have a very good pitcher going on Sunday. Why VV has not pitched for so long???? I don't get that one. And guys, yes, i am going to be tough on CarGo because i really like Marisnick, i like his defense, his hustle and that helps win games. Can you remember one time he had a bad play of defense going after balls in the outfield? At the beginning we questioned his arm a little bit, not now, but he covered the sea out there. I'm still upset with this loss because i blame it to defense.
I would go top 2 went 0-10 because number 3 hitter hit a homer. Altuve and CarGo killed us big time last night, one of the reasons we lost.
Defense, Sipp, Neshek cost us. No major harm done, just win the series. Keuchel can get us back on track, then hopefully we somehow win a bad matchup Sunday.
That was a tough one to lose. But we've had some great victories here recently, always gonna have some tough defeats to go along with them.
I know McHugh isn't popular with many on this board. Amazes me when people talk about "bad matchups" because he is on the hill though. Amazes me INCLUDING the really bad last start Last 8 starts for McHugh he has a 3.44 era, team is 6-2. He has averaged 6.5 innings per start During that SAME TIME PERIOD Ray has made 7 starts. He has a 3.64 era and has averaged 6.0 innings per start. Arizona is 2-5 in those games. He isn't exactly "hot" either, only getting into the 6th inning once in his past three starts So, McHugh has a better ERA the past month, has averaged more innings per start, and the Astros are 6-2 vs 2-5 for Ray And yea, that's just a bad matchup, lol Come on guys, if you don't like McHugh that is certainly your right as a fan. But let's at least use some facts here when we want to downgrade our own
Colin's recent surge has been nice, but the entire season's stats are the best judge. 4.43 ERA 1.318 WHIP McHugh needs to be more consistent... we all know that. He can be feast or famine similar to the offense. Anyways, this particular match up speaks more about McHugh's mound opponent than McHugh. Do you realize how good Robbie has been? His stats far exceed Colin's "surge".
Why are the entire season's stats better than the last 8 games that were posted above, when an even longer set of stats last season (his first full one, btw) says he's even better? These are all relevant pieces of information--the one you choose to use isn't the best judge because it helps your argument.
Yep, Ray's first 4 games he pitched 24.2 innings and gave up 3 runs total. His next 25.1 innings he gave up 9 runs. His last 16.2 innings he gave up 8 runs. Kind of a small sample size to make a judgment on how good he can be.
If you want Colin to be an Ace, then yea prepare yourself to be disappointed I suppose As for Ray, I do realize his era since the All Star Break is 4.32. He has given up 24 baserunners in 16 innings. Hey the guy might come in here and shut us out, we will have to wait and see But to sit here complaining about a bad matchup a day ahead when the FACTS show it isn't.....aww, go ahead and woller in it
Perhaps Hinch should immediately bump McHugh to the #2 spot based off last season.... his ONLY good season. No one crowned Ray as a future HOFer, but it is sample size. Glad to see he's trending downward. Hopefully the Stros can continue that trend.
Did I complain about a bad matchup? No Did I say it's a bad matchup? Yes Do I think the game is hopeless? No
We know by the team going with 13 pitchers most of the year that they definitely won't go with less than 12. That means that it will be a position player. That leaves the following to choose from: Carter Gonzalez Marisnick Tucker Marisnick is to good of a defensive replacement and situational pitch runner to send down and Tucker is having to good of a second half of the season. We are pretty confident that they want Valbuena to play first vs Righties, so it comes down to who do they prefer at 1B against lefties. Gonzalez's batting avg or Carter's power??? Note that Gonzalez' ability to play other positions isn't as valuable anymore due to Valbuena and Lowrie being able to play anywhere on the infield. With all that said, I think Gonzalez has been hitting great lately and seems to fit in better with his teammates than Carter, so I expect Carter to be DFA'd pretty soon after his Academy autograph session is done today. Chris Carter - The Failed Experiment - What could have been...
It has to be Velazquez. He's got options and he's just got zero role currently on the big league club. Hell, he through a full bullpen session AFTER the game last night (before the fireworks) just to try and get some work in. I know his innings will eventually be limited, but right now he's not pitching AT ALL... and that can also have some deleterious effects on stamina and mechanics.
I'm apparently bad at math... as I counted the pitching staff only at 12. I agree Velasquez is the most likely unless they just decide they are finally ready to give up on Carter.
An experiment is when you dont know what the end result will be. What Carter is, and always has been, is well known and predictable. What would be more accurate would be to say: Chris Carter - Failed Hope - What some imagined could have been...
Yea you might be right, will be interesting to see what happens with the rotation if that is the case though. One of the 6 starters will have to be available in the pen next two days if they move VV out. Gregerson and Neshek have both pitched 3 days in a row so have to believe they are both out for tonight as they won't pitch 4 days in a row. Qualls, Sipp, Harris and Fields all pitched last night in addition to Luke and Pat, so any of those guys that throw today would be looking at their 3rd in a row Sunday if needed. Really don't understand why VV wasn't used last night. REALLY need Keuchel to go beast mode today and throw a complete game. I know originally they said a move would be made today, but last night Hinch said Fiers hasn't reported yet and they don't have to make a move until he reports. The longer this drags out, the more I think they don't make the move until tomorrow?
