I have no faith in Appel being a solid ML pitcher so I would be all over this trade.

Forgetting for a second what your faith is based on, it's about what other teams will give for a SP who went 1/1 very recently. They should be able to get more for him if they actually move him, regardless of if he's been up and down thus far (because he's had some ups recently and at high levels)

Quit reading, watch him pitch. Kid has 137 K's in 127 innings, 61 walks and only 4 HR's allowed with a 3.38 ERA...all with an absolutely terrible defense behind him. He was an all star last year and could regain that form playing with the Stros who have the BEST defensive team in baseball. Ground ball pitcher as well. Put him on the 'Stros and he's slotted in at #3, no doubt about it, and he would be a stud at #3. I've watched him pitch many times, plus we would have team control for a few years.

It seems like that was simply floated out there to set the floor on any deals.

It's amazing that negotiating through the media is still employed like its a viable strategy. If it actually works, then some of these front offices need to take a negotiating class.

Why not use every channel you have at your disposal? Some of these reporters are so willing to break a scoop, they'll tweet out anything you tell them.

My point was that they are using it because it still works on people which is amazing considering that they are usually just ploys. Negotiating that way makes it seem to be treated like a game when it isn't.

I assume a Ross trade would be headlined by Appel. Would Chapman cost Appel as well?
