D-Mo and especially Jones would be wise to spend time with Hayes and learn the finer points of post defense.

It's not a waste of a roster spot. Every contending team needs guys like Hayes and Terry, good locker room influences that don't care or expect major playing time, but when their number is called, they will be ready.

Capela, Harrell, D-Mo and Jones can all stand to learn tricks of the post defense trade from Hayes, as well. What this move also does is enable Harrell to get his feet wet in the D-League before being thrown into NBA action.

Everyone likes Hayes when he was a rockets player, just hope that he still has some gas left with this return, so he can guard some PFs in the west when the rockets need him.

I haven't seen Chuck play consistently since he was on the Rockets. People are questioning if hes got anything left and saying he will be on the coaching staff next year? He is only 32 and doesn't rely on athleticism. Most NBA players can easily play until mid 30s on both ends. If chuck is just a defensive specialist that doesnt rely on athleticism, cant be play until hes older. Maybe not quite like Mutumbo because he isn't as tall, but still 32 is quite young to give up the NBA to coach.

Chuck's best attribute when he was with us, IMO, wasn't so much the post-defense as it was the overall team defense. He had very quick feet, and we could use him on PnR switches. He was also quick to running down loose balls and getting into position to take charges.

If he's lost a step or two in that regard (and I expect he has), then as a player that really cuts down his value in my view. We'll see.

IMO. his post defense was just as good as his team defense.

lets just say that if we had chuck hayes against lamarcus a couple years ago, our playoff run would have been a lot longer.
I recall when he used to shut down all the elite pfs and was the enforcer for our team.

Maybe, but Chuck was also two years younger. Also, playing in SacTown seems to kill your desire to play basketball at a high level ever again.

I'm sure DeMarcus is counting the days until he can escape.

He also has relatively low mileage (18mpg average for his career) for the average, just-turned-32 NBA player.

When I think Chuck Hayes, I think character, as well as defensive smarts and ability.

The main down side will be he offers opposing teams, in close games, another Hack-a-choice. I haven't seen him play since he left Houston. I guess he still has that hitch to his FT shooting. ;)

Like Hakeem, ability can't be taught to other players so easily. They can try to mimic what he did, but there's only one Hakeem. If it could be learned so easily just by being a teammate, you'd see other players where he played doing what Chuck Hayes does. It's as much in his head as in his body. His body follows his awareness.

We'll just have to wait and see. I'm all for being optimistic.

This is the most important aspect of the trade...

The results are in, having a fat butt equals better defense.
