I doubt the mets destroyed his value If there is really something significant on the injury then yea, maybe they did expose it I bet it's just as likely that they didn't like the deal and used medicals to get out
Lol we got our pitcher. The leverage or little that you think we have is irrelevant at this point. We have prospects (maybe best available) and a GM/Owner who now seem aggressive. Look at what we paid for Kazmir... 2 guys who don't even make a 5 percent sent in our top overall talent. It's a steal at this point. We saved our prospects. Anything more is icing on the cake.
We'd have 6 starting pitchers on the ML roster. I don't know how they'd handle that in the short-term.
Anybody think that Oakland is kicking themselves for not waiting on trading Kazmir?? After seeing what Detroit and Cincinnati got for their guys, and what San Diego is asking for Ross, I'd bet Beane would like a mulligan.
If you look at our current roster, and assume you are looking at what we have for the next 5 years or so.... Catcher: ???? 1B: ??, Reed/Singleton possibles 2B: Altuve SS: Correa 3B: ?? Lowie, Moran/Davis possibles OF: Springer OF: ??, Marisnik OF: ??, Phillips, Santana, Fisher, Kemp possibles DH: Gattis, Tucker possible So just looking at offense, if you moved a couple of the "possibles" in a deal, there are certainly other prospects sitting in the same spot. That isn't even counting longer term guys like Bregman, Daz and K Tucker. Part of the dealing process is who others want, and which of those guys Luhnow thinks has the best chance of making it. Point being, if we moved 3 or 4 of the guys listed as possibles here, we have others there still. Long term, catcher is the biggest spot that needs attention, right now i'd say 1B and OF SP1: Keuchel SP2: McCullers SP3: ??, VV, Appel possibles SP4: McHugh SP5: Feldman next year, ?? long term Also have Feliz, Martes, Musgrove, Hader, Guduan...and that doesn't even go into longer term guys like Ferrell and Eshelman and others Also doesn't take into consideration if we sign Kazmir. Now, if we are discussing what to give up for Tyson Ross, and is another controllable piece we put in the 2/3 spot and those top 3 spots are locked down. If you give up 1 of VV or Appel, you still have the other to battle Feldman for the 5th spot next year, not to mention the other 5 who are close Again, point is if we have to give up VV or Appel, along with another of those on the list, we will STILL have great great depth in the system
Just depends on how they view prospects. As i've said a lot the last few weeks, just because someone is listed by BA or MLB.com as a teams #1 or #5 or whatever, doesn't mean all teams look at them that way. Maybe he really thinks Nottingham is going to be a front line catcher, and wanted him over the other guys. And while I Love the Kazmir deal, and think he could be as good as any down the stretch, he simply wouldn't have the same trade value as the others throughout the industry. He is great right now, and was very good last year, but he has had a pretty crazy career and likely isn't seen as being quite as reliable as the others
Feldman would go to the pen, or be moved somewhere is my guess. I think Feldman would be fine as a 5th starter (if he could stay healthy), but he would easily be the one to move out if we kept the ones in the rotation now and added a guy like Ross
Not an easy guy to move. Would be the most expensive long-reliever in MLB history. A lot of "ifs" here, but not improbable ones: If they intend to re-sign Kazmir, if they trade for Ross, and if only one of Velasquez/Appel are moved, I'd bet on McHugh being shipped too.
What is his contract situation? Although he bats lefty, until this year he has been great vs LHP, and that is something we could use.
Harrison was just moved, 3 times the money and worse pitcher than Feldman You are right a lot of Ifs, i'll be really surprised if McHugh is moved, although he certainly is someone that other teams would want
Considering that 80% of the trades so far that have been consummated have resulted in AL teams getting better, that isn't so shocking. I also wouldn't be shocked if the Astros were the team that was interested.
I doubt it. Price and Cueto are better than Kazmir and Beane got the prospect he wanted, a 19 year old catcher with a 900+ OPS across two levels this year.
Any guy who vetoes a trade to Houston is on my ***** list. But ending up with the Rangers, puts him on my **** *** list. Cant wait to face him.

I am good with our outfielders because i do like Marisnick a lot. Also, i am for giving Singleton a chance, so i am not big on making moves unless is a pitcher like Ross and a reliever. If getting a bat we have to give a lot of our system, i prefer to wait for Springer, and hope for good things from Singleton and Lowrie pushing for at bats and making competition between GAttis, Carter, Valbuena and Singleton fun to watch
