Didn't say I was against the trade, just thought they were adamantly against trading Phillips.

    Ross is deceptive.

His is an extreme ground ball pitcher
He has a high strikeout rate
He does not give up home runs

As a result he can walk guys and give up hits (high WHIP) and still walk away unscathed.

    Depends honestly.

Some do not think that Kimbrel has a lot of value because of his contract.

Personally I don't like spending huge money on closers, but if there is anyone worth it, it is Kimbrel.

Yep. He'll always make you nervous, but usually minimizes the damage

Move Gregerson to the 8th, Neshek to the 7th, and guys like Harris, Fields and a resurgent Qualls to 6th, and while we may not have the fanfare of the Royals pen or the two studs at the back of Yankees pen, we would be as deep as any pen in the league. We could then tell McCullers just dominate for 5, we got it after that

    Basically the KC way! LOL

We will just have more pop in our lineup.

    I agree with you.

Kimbrel is the best closer in baseball. He has had the best 5 year start to a career of any closer. He would just be nasty.

Gregerson and Neskek in the set up role are not the best in baseball, but are consistent and overall very good.

Harris/Fields/Qualls Very good bottom of the pen.

You wouldn't need to worry about wearing out your pen... you could go to the pen 3-4 innings almost every game.

I'd say McHugh would be a strong candidate, since there's no way the Padres are taking Feldman back. Maybe something like Appel, Velasquez, McHugh, Santana, and Fields.

This tells me that Luhnow likely was in on the talks but probably refused to give up his top prospects in this deal. He could've matched or beaten that deal if he tried hard enough. I'm glad he didn't.

Could have beaten that with ease had we wanted to.

Remove Appel or Velasquez, replace with a minor league bat.

Regardless, the Stros are all but out of leverage at this point. The supposed buyers market is now a sellers, with almost all of the big arms gone, and the steep price paid for them.

I think McHugh has more value than that. I know he isn't the most popular around here right now, but he has value. I'd be surprised if he was moved.

For both Ross and Kimbrel, I would think something like VV, Santana, Feliz..wouldn't be surprised to see Singleton and Alonso in there too, give them the upside guy and us some consistency for the stretch run.

But...none of the big bats are gone. Bruce, cargo, Gomez, upton, Lind all haven't been traded yet. The most obvious/capable buyers out there still are us, cubs, mets. Deadline hasn't passed yet!

Plus...since it happened what seems like so long ago, we did trade for Kazmir. Which looked like a pretty good bargain at the time and is looking even better as the week goes on.

And Luhnow gets Kaz for a C/RHP
Although Kazmir is the "lesser" of the three.

On the plus side, almost all the buyers with shiny prospects are gone as well.

Add cespedes to that list...maybe take Gomez off after the mets pretty much destroyed his value for this trade season.
