Ross and Benoit would be awesome. Would probably cost something like Appel + Santana + low level upside (someone like Paulino) but I'd be all for it.
Not sure exactly what he knows, but last night, Matt Thomas said Springer returning mid-Sept would be "optimistic". Would be a ~75-day hiatus
The bone he broke is not a bone that is often seen broken in the sport. So time tables were never really accurate.
Cast is still on... so we're looking at least 2-3 weeks AFTER the cast comes off before he will be evaluated for full duty. That already puts him around September.... and figuring that the hand has likely lost a lot of strength, he'll need to rehab first, then go on rehab assignments, and THEN he gets activated. The good news is that bones usually heal... the bad news is that they sometimes take awhile, and that's not including pain/discomfort/inflammation that needs to also go away completely to ensure he can play at a high level.
He takes the cast off everyday for rehab/pt...at least that is what they said in the broadcast last night (I watched local, couldn't stand espn). So he has started the initial rehab and strengthening of it...just an injury that a lot is unknown about.
What was so hard to decipher about that? Crane will pay....Price appears to be out....talks with Padres....Appel is available.
There was a different tweet yesterday where there was a missing word or something that could have changed the whole meaning of the tweet. It had to do with the Astros front office either being confident or not confident in Hamels waiving his No Trade Clause.
I generally agree with Gammons bashing...but are you complaining that he uses proper spelling and complete sentences on twitter?
It has been a long time since I've seen a Gammons tweet about Astros that didn't have some kind of dig. I still haven't figured out how he is saying the Astros suck in that tweet. Granted, I only see his tweets here so there he may be saying the Astors poop rainbows on tweets I don't see.
Ross is my top choice among pitchers as provides help now and later at arbitration rates. CarGo is top hitter the Astros should be pursuing if he's available. I like Marisnick and think he only needs to be a bad hitter to be a good player. That said, he's not been close to being as good as a bad hitter in some time.
But he's still requiring it... just saying that the evaluation process for it to be removed "for good" is still a few weeks away, which is pretty much the biggest limiting factor to him returning to "full" duties.
It required me re-reading multiple times, as do lots of his tweets. "Owner Jim Crane backs any big move Jeff Luhnow can make with $$$"...silly phraseology. Sounds like he's having flashbacks to 1920's newspaper headlines. Just say Crane is willing to open up the pocketbooks, as you just did. What else is he going to back moves with? Candy? Then immediately after an opening sentence talking about the owner, GM, and money, he follows with, "They've talked on Price". Capital "P" aside, it requires figuring out through context to be certain whether he's still talking about money, or the player. Then he further confuses things (to me, at least), by saying "Padres more likely". Well, David Price would require the big financial commitment from Crane that Gammons went out of his way to open the tweet with, Tyson Ross wouldn't.
But the Padres have multiple options where money could be an issue. Crane saying the $$$ is there is just giving the green light to any trade that will improve the team regardless of cost. Also indicates they don't care about getting cash back in the deal, if you can buy a player to reduce prospect cost then do it.
The goodnews is it at least indicates the cast is more for protection/precautionary reasons and he's able to build up some mobility/strength in the wrist. Better than the cast being permanent and them not wanting him to me be the wrist at all. Still hoping for a bat in a trade in case the rehab doesn't go well.
Saying a combination of players from the Padres is more likely than just a single trade for Price. If the $$$ and prospects are the same, the Padres might be willing to give you more than just Ross which I would prefer if I am Luhnow.
