I think the thumb is fully healed... but he's going to be rusty regardless of when he starts playing.

He's also injury-prone, so don't be surprised if something else happens to him at some point.

And he isn't the guy we saw those 18 games this year

I like him a lot, and he will help

Just hope people are realistic....although I know they won't be, lol

We just need a solid contact hitter with a steady OBP and good situationally. I'd take a .750 OPS the rest of the year and run.

Oh yeah. Anyone who actually thinks he is a .900+ OPS guy is going to be in for a rude awakening.

Just checked Kazmir's numbers against the Angels, and a couple of players have pretty good numbers. However, that was with the A's shotty defense, so hopefully playing for a new team helps out with that. A sweep would be so beautiful. Hope we light up Shoemaker again. Dude is not a major league quality pitcher IMO.

Lowrie is a guy with inconsistent years, one year is .280 next one is .245. One year a high OPS, next year low OPS. Now, for a SS the numbers were better than average, but for a 3b the numbers may be below average. With the way Valbuena is playing defense, if he is able to hit a little bit more, he should stay playing regularly over Lowrie, unless he is outplayed because as i said, Lowrie is very inconsistent each year, and maybe this is the year of him hitting like crazy.
Now, who will play 1b? I've been saying, give Singleton A REAL chance. After the All Star, his OPS is over .900 (yes, few at bats, but is half the at bats so far) and has played a nice 1b, at least, much better than Carter (not saying much).

Now, Lowrie could had been a great utility, BUT, Marwin is doing a great job there, and i believe Marwin plays better defense.

In conclusion, i dont think Lowrie will make much of a difference, he was signed to play SS and at that positions his numbers are good, but at 3b his production is not going to be that good, so at least, it gives competition and if Valbuena struggles, then Lowrie is there but we should not expect a savior here or that he will make a major difference in our lineup, Springer is the guy for that, or a trade.

If we want to improve our lineup, especially on the road, then play Conger and Singleton more over Castro and Carter.

When he has a cushion it's like Gregerson doesn't take s**t seriously. He's allowed runs in 7 appearances, all games in which we had a multiple run lead. When the game is tied opponent's have a .205 OPS, when we're up one opponents have a .375 OPS. When it gets close he has reliably slammed the door all year, but he often makes it much more interesting than it should be.

But we got the W. Won the series, now it's time to get greedy. With Kazmir going have to feel good about the sweep.

Great news on Lowrie. Any word on how much further away Springer is?

I read he was not going fast the healing, 2 more weeks and doing some running and taking fly balls, nothing with the injured hand. Two weeks they will look at the arm, but it does not look as is going to be the best scenario of 6 weeks, looks more like is going to be the 8 weeks, meaing, still a month away

    Sadness.

Hopefully he comes back strong when he does.

    Lowrie will help

The chances of a .900 OPS are slim to none, but he gives good at bats, has a great approach at the plate on a team with many guys with a terrible approach

And he wasn't signed just to play SS, he said when he signed he knew SS would go to Correa when he was ready. Jed seemed to really like it here last time and really seemed to want to come back

He is no savior, but he will certainly help

If anything Jed adds veteran leadership which can't be understated.

The one thing about Jed is he is going to hit well in Minute Maid as he has a .875 OPS in Minute Maid since 2012 which is stellar. I really think he is more valuable to a team like the Astros than any one in the majors. I believe Luhnow has accumulated players with strengths for our unique ballpark (isn't hard to find) but I do think that is why he brought in guys like Jed, Valbuena, Gattis, and even Carter for that matter.

I am not worried about Jed at home but if he can have an OPS around .775 on the road our offense will be so much better. We will need all the road wins we can get down the stretch. Jed's patience will be a god sense if he can add some pop as well.

Garrett Richards tapping into his inner Lloyd McClendon:

“I have to be better. Bottom line,” Richards told Angels reporters. “I’m not going to give them any credit. I have to be better.”

NP. And just in case you missed it last night:

He has since been activated and will be in the starting lineup.

It's not like he hasn't been around the team. It's certainly valuable but I don't think they've been missing it in the clubhouse or in the dugout.
