I really like this signing of Hayes. He will fit in, he wants to be in Houston, and he knows his role on this roster. He has always shown competitive energy, and will be available when Rockets need him. Not a cancer in locker room, and only a plus. We have our starters already, this was great signing! Welcome home Chuckwagon.

My take on Hayes is it is a home run and here is why: 1. Vet minimum. Again, vet minimum and partially guaranteed. This gives Hayes huge trade value as well. 2. Hayes was huge for us as a starting center during our non-tanking 9th seed rebuilding. He was basically the most undersized 5, I've seen ever. This season he might be put at the 4, where his height won't be as much of a liability. Chuck was crazy efficient next to Yao for a while, and this was before he learned to score at the basket without getting blocked or hit free throws at a higher clip than 37% 3. Chuck isn't the liability Dorsey was. I thought Dorsey was a steal on his cheap contract. He was a big bruiser that gave us plenty of hustle and 2nd chances. He had decent value at the trade deadline. Somewhere in the last 30 games Dorsey's 25% free-throw shooting was exposed. I was scared going into the playoffs with him as our back up 5, and so was Mchale. This is why Capela got minutes. Mchale knew his 17% FT percentage was just nerves and was worth the gamble to see if he could hit more than 1 out 4. Capela did and now the future is bright for him. While Chuck isn't exactly Calvin Murphy, he has hit 67% of his free throws since leaving the Rockets. That is just about good enough to make the other team pay if they intentionally foul him and far beyond what Smith, Howard and Dorsey were doing. Anyone who says they would rather have Dorsey doesn't know basketball. Dorsey is the worst free throw shooter I've ever seen. His percentage is too much of a liability. His only value is to a team is as a starter who plays pre-bonus. Chuck does need to get back into shape, but playing for a contender in front of his family on his cheapest contract in years is the ultimate incentive.
I know it's shocking to say this, but I'm not so sure. The recent times I've seen him, he's look not that good. I think people just had a distorted view of Dorsey last year because for whatever reason, most presumed he'd fill the Asik's role when he was suppose to be a token bench player. Would've never seen the court if everyone was healthy last year.
Yep! I'm going to venture a guess that Dwight will half ass it for most of the season, if he doesn't decide to take 2 months off pre-playoffs. A healthy Dwight Howard in the playoffs is a rebounding, shot blocking, machine. Hayes is to ensure we have solid defense at the 5 if Capela if Capela isn't ready to make the leap to consistent starter.
this signing wasn't about on court production. he's going to mentor and help develop capela, harrell, and dmo. anyone that doens't like this move is only looking at it from an on court perspective. when you see the progress the young bigs make you will like the move.
The same was said about the 37 year Jason Terry when the rockets traded for him and look how much he played and provided. Very solid signing IMO.
