People always talk about FF7 remake, but IMO a FF6 remake would benefit from a remake much more. It was on the Super NES, so the game looks much older than FF7 despite only coming out 2 years earlier. A graphically modern update of that story would give people an appreciation for how great it was.
Ff6 had too many flat characters and tended to ham it up too much.... Ff7 was a huge step forward in story telling. Compare sephiroths background to Kefka.... At least we learn why sephiroths evil. I would love to see ff6 fledged out more though. It had a lot of weak spots. Great game for it's time though....

I guess the new generation is not patient enough to have it turn-based.... Not as excited anymore. I love me some Kingdom Hearts but I only cared about Sora. I didn't care that I couldn't really control the other characters. I WANT TO CONTROL ALL THE CHARACTERS IN FF7! Screw this action RPG garbage. Oh, I'll give them my money, but I wont like it!
Came to post, looks phockin niiice. Never progressed much in the original FF VII, will be nice to experience most of the story for the first time with this remake.
Not sure if this really helps much, but I believe there's character switching going on in that trailer (Barret is controlled briefly). I figured it was basically Kingdom Hearts gameplay, but some of the commands and things shown in the UI make me wonder. Though I do think they're probably still heavily experimenting with this (much of the trailer might have been placeholders/scripted), so who knows what it will end up being (it is a Nomura game).
I mean it's great to see FF7 characters and all but nothing really stands out about that. With it going action RPG it looks kinda generic otherwise
Agreed. Even with that character switching and engine tweeks RC Cola was talking about above it looks like another hack and slash. I dont understand where this notion the turn based style is out dated? RPGs have always been about your party, strategy, math, exploration and the grind. RPGs were selling just fine then all of a sudden they started tweeking sytems for no reason.
The market for video games in America is a lot bigger than the one in Japan. To cater to American gamers, they Americanize their games to sell more. American gamers want action, massive open world, non-linear game play. Selling more copies = more profit, sequels, etc. Most American gamers don't value traditional Japanese game play and stick to what they're used to. Look at success of Fallout, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls etc. I believe FF13 wasn't received well either.
If they design it turn based, flipping action mode like a switch has been done before, like knights of the old republic That said, I can't last through turn based games anymore. There's a lot of them on mobile/handheld, and the grind doesn't make up for the fact that it opens 80 bucks retail. Turn based RPGs are pretty much the same 2d formula rendered in a static 3D image for 80% of the time. Jrpgs need to up their game because times have changed and they don't corner that market anymore.
I dont know. If it was turn based, i wouldnt feel enough change was made to make it better... aside from the graphics.
Smh. FF7, highly regarded as one of the best RPGs ever made where fans have clamored for an updated graphics version, gets remade to a completely different game with the same story.
I'm loving it and the stuff shown is obviously still early. Hoping some of those aren't the final english voices and Barrett takes off those stupid glasses at some point, lol. I wouldn't think you control just a single character since later in the game you kind of have to be able to control other characters if the story will still be the same. Battle system remind somewhat of Crisis Core. Regardless I'm in. I knew if this was getting remade the same ATB system would have to be changed up a bit and I'm glad. If you want the original battle system they released the PC port for FF7 today for yall(which I will buy as well :grin
Is it 80 bucks now for a game? I haven't bought a game in years .. at least for retail. Are you counting DLC? (**** you DLC by the way) I disagree. the grind makes the $30-$60 worth it. The last (classic) RPG I bought was FFX and I played that game for months. Getting all the stuff, playing all the games makes for a long ass game.
Yeah, it was 60 retail, I was mentally counting in dlc because that's how they get you. Being time constrained makes me more open to instant gratification and evolving gameplay.
I didn't even think about that... I'm complaining about a game I won't have time to play anyway.. I still haven't finished Mass Effect 3 or MGSV: Ground Zeroes. The internet tells me Ground Zeroes is 15 minutes long...
now that im old and have a job i cant invest into too much time into gaming anymore. I take quality over quantity anytime when it comes to time. a good 25-30 hour game is good enough for me. also game looks amazing im glad they went away from turn based gameplay.
Yeah I understand where yall are coming from with the time having to invest in some games. I played the heck out of Fallout 4 when i initially got it but haven't picked it up in over a week just cuz I haven't had the time. It's been easier just to play CoD Black Ops 3 with friends. Just jump on for some quick deathmatch or CTF and no remembering where you were or what you were doing just point and shoot.
