    agree with both of you.

While I didn't dislike the speech, it was also typically Biggio. Which is why I was surprised when someone immediately after (hearing it in my head makes me think it was Harold Reynolds?) said "that might be the best speech I've heard here in all my years of coming to this ceremony". Huh?

Hey Now be careful your comments in your first paragraph will be taken by some as "b****ing". Then again who gives a rats ass what they think.

I have had countless people I know who aren't even Astros fans reach out to me the past cople of days mentioning the same EXACT same thing (why not more about Bagwell)?

It was typical biggio. Did you expect him to give a Jordan speech. Be classy.

Think it is fairly obvious that Biggio and Bagwell don't really keep in contact anymore. For all we know there could have been a falling out between the two... Bags' alcohol issues have only gotten worse and worse.

Did anybody happen to catch whether or not Bagwell was sober during the induction speech? Could that have been a factor?

Really hope he's able to beat his inner demons before the hall comes calling... if he lived in a bigger media market, his antics as of late would be more publicized.

edit: man, poster above me sharing the same sentiments...

Calling out the voters, stumping for guys that are already eligible and have been voted on, is strictly verboten in the speech. Biggio talked up Bagwell everywhere else he could.

Good job yall, though, proper freakout about nothing.

You know who would've admonish Biggio for championing Bags by hiding behind some pretend unwritten rule about induction speeches? The very same sanctimonious pricks who don't vote for Bagwell.

They've never really been close; they respect the **** out of each other but were never BFFs.

Regarding Bagpipes... Biggio could've easily said something to the effect of, "hope to see you up here soon"

is there a video of the Ausmus intro anywhere? I didn't get to see that part, and the replay shown in the evening on Sunday left the intros out..

You should let the Hall of Fame know your feelings, because that's who is in charge of the, you know, the Hall of Fame Ceremony.

They are not "unwritten or pretend" rules, or whatever you want to call them, they are part of the basic rules of decorum that the organization wants its members to abide by.

That is exactly what the HOF does not want inductees to do.

I did love, absolutely love, Smoltz's talk about youth athletes, especially baseball players.

Ok, so a guy who was busted for a DUI (Biggio) is going to take a self-righteous stance towards Baggy at that moment (or ANY freakin' time)?

Is Bagwell still close with Alou? As I recall, they were much closer than I remember Biggio and Alou... or Biggio and Bagwell.

Basically, I remember Biggio being close with Cammy, Bagwell being close with Alou, Ausmus being close with both Bags/Biggio, and Derek Bell living by himself on a boat.

I really am concerned about Bag's personal well being... I've seen him at a few marquee events over the last year, and he's been unable to hold a conversation, let alone walk straight.

She's definitely made it more awkward... not sure if he gets more riled up by her or just enables him more to "do his thing".

    She certainly attracts a "type"...

I would agree with Ric's much more balanced comments, if there weren't a specific written rule forbidding it.

    Feeling's mutual!

Well, now you can tell them. It's against the rules.

LOL, this happened in 1989 - over a quarter-century ago. He was 23 at the time. I could write a novel on all the stupid stuff I did when I was 23... :)

I still remember the interview where he apologized to the team, the fans and swore he'd never do anything like that again. And he didn't.

My buddy is the band director at St Thomas where Biggio coaches and says he's the nicest most genuine person he's met in his 20 years working there. And he doesn't even like baseball or professional sports.
