More like betting against himself that he will return to form without any problems this year.

If he can get his act together, Rockets will keep him and he might even get a raise. If he fails, bye bye.

I did a small write-up on this. I meant to post it in this thread but accidentally posted it in Bima's thread. Numbers seem to be right except for Dwight's cap hold, but that doesn't change any of the scenarios or how much we need to cut.

Would Durant be willing to play PF? Financially almost impossible, but this lineup would have me in happy tears:

    Howard
    Durant
    Ariza
    Harden
    Beverley

He's going to end up a PF in the league anyway IMO.

He is too light to be a full time 4. Plus you don't want him grinding it out with the big guys as he gets older imo.

I'm sure he would play in some small ball lineups like that, but it is financially possible to even add DMo and still have Capela, so there is still some bench in that first year. Almost entirely dictated by Dwight signing for way less than his max, to lock in a long term deal. He would need to take something like $20-23M in starting salary.

I think with him getting stronger and filling out and slowing down a bit cause of injury, and also with the league getting rapidly lighter at PF we'd be just fine.

With Howard playing elite D and swallowing rebounds, I'm not worried about it. He's only a slightly lesser rebounder than our guys when he plays PF, but ten times the scorer and more height than all of them.

Doesn't mean he doesn't ever play the 3, just that we're trying to be so good that the rest of the league has to change (which is what all great champions do really).

its essentially a 1yr deal with lawson if the rockets want it to be, they maintained flexibility.

Man wouldn't Stanley Johnson be perfect on this team.

Was lawson drunk when he agreed to this? I can't believe he gave up 13 mil.

When you go small with elite (or even just above-average) players who create mismatches, other teams are forced to match you, rather than vice versa.

    See the Warriors-Cavs.

Lawson is an all-star caliber PG in his prime. He'll be fine.

I'm sick of it tbh. Our resident speculator was talking about KD and some other BS 2 seconds after we got Lawson.

Kevin Durant is not being traded and he will not sign in Houston. He actually doesn't even like Dwight. We need to drop this. It's embarrassing.

I'm happy with the team and we have enough to win titles.

You know who else will go hard after Durant? Every freaking team with cap, which will probably be close to half the league. That doesn't matter, though. All that matters is that premium glamor teams, such as the Heat and Lakers will have space.

I don't see Durant wanting to live in Kobe's shadow, though, and I doubt he's dumb enough to believe Kobe is retiring. Please. Kobe will retire until after the Lakers reel in Durant then he will have a "change of heart" and un retire. I think Durant will see that coming a mile away and look towards Miami, instead. It's South Beach. It's the Eastern Conference. And he'll get to be top dog in a way he couldn't be in LA.
