Can't logically see them continuing to march Carter and Singleton out there. They can't afford to in the middle of a chase for the playoffs.
Seriously, in 1417 PA over the last 3 seasons (not a small sample) he had posted a .799 OPS with a 37 HR, 95 RBI pace, however inconsistently he came by those numbers. Even this year his OPS had climbed up to .746 on Jun 18, and he appeared set to put up his typical numbers by years end, but the bottom has fallen out since then. This has to be infuriating for Luhnow, at a certain point you just have to move on and end this game of statistical chicken we are playing with Carter. It's irritating, because Carter could very well catch on with another team and post an .850 OPS over the rest of the year. And I guarantee everybody will suddenly be b****ing "how could you possibly have gotten rid of this guy" But he may not, he may just keep sucking.
We honestly need a solution for 1B. AJ Reed or Tyler White…nothing can be worse than what we've been putting up with thus far.
If the Astros are wiling to trade viable assets to aquire rental players, then it is time to pull the plug on Carter. He may very well hit 40 homers next year but with playoff births being almost lottery tickets (anyone can win if you get in) it is time for some consistency. At this point, assuming his back is fine, deal the "B" prospect and filler needed to get Adam Lind. He is a massive upgrade offensively and is under contract next year at a very reasonable amount. This team matches up well with the rest of the AL. The Royals are close to getting Cueto and they will get Gordon back. We get Springer and Lowrie back... Getting Lind only makes the offense that much better.... Carter can hit 50 homers next year and I won't care.
I care about consistency more than spurts of great followed by spurts of ****. Im tired of Carter's routine…and Lind would be AMAZING! The foursome of Springer, Altuve, Correa, and Lind would be so sexy.
Why? They all pitched relatively well and gave up all of 1 run in 4 innings. In fact I'd say they pitched just as well as the royals vaunted bullpen, only the royals caught better breaks. Don't know why but I get really annoyed w all the "nauseating loss", "I feel sick" and "f*** ________" hyperbolic commentary... It was a well played 1-run loss in extra innings to the best team in the AL. It happens.
Harris is struggling, not only the run scored, but he allowed 2 hits and a 1 in only 1 inning, plus a saving play by Correa Harris is struggling lately
You can't blame the BP, the best of BP's give up the occasional run. It's the offense that is so inconsistent and yes it's time, Carter has to go. Carter had to have been juicing for a short period last year.
This is why a one and done wild card game is scary for the Astros. Their offense is so dependent on HRs. The Astros need more players with a reasonable OBP and less all or nothing swingers. Luhnow is drafting these type of guys; they are just not here yet.
This is that whole 3-day memory problem several of you have. Harris has given up 3 ER in the last month - they just happen to be in the last 3 days. Before that, he hadn't given up a run in July. He has an ERA of 1.40. If you expect ERA's of 0, everyone will "struggle" according to you.
Lowrie and Springer are hurt. Trade deadline hasn't passed and Astros needs have been met...so it is about luxury at this point. The Astros have Keuchel. I expect if the Astros are in the wild card game, Astros fans won't be the most scared.
For every JD Martinez, there are 100 players that were released and went on to do nothing. At some point, you just have to move on and take the risk that he'll figure it out elsewhere...especially when you're in the middle of a pennant race and you have 2 of these guys that are adding nothing.
damn people really is hating on that correa play in the 9th. they saying any ss could make that play.
