Royals announcers don't understand that the Astros don't seem to care how good they are (Royals), or anyone else for that matter We will run on anyone, at any time, in any situation
Colby Lewis pitched a very goooood game. I saw part of the game, and the Pujols strike out, after he struck out Trout was awesome.
Funny thing is, he wasn't even the top pitcher on his High School team at Cy Falls, Clint Everts went #5 overall that same year in the draft. Don't think Everts ever made it to the big leagues though. And for those who don't understand how much of an unexact science the draft is, Everts also went directly ahead of some guy named Zach Greinke (whatever happened to him, lol) and Prince Fielder Kazmir himself went ahead of Cole Hamels. What a crap shoot the first round of the mlb draft is
Only reason Kazmir had some detractors was his height For me, he was another Billy Wagner (as we all know he was a starter) but with a better change up.
We need to start doing a better job on the base path as we are making way too many outs EASILY on the bases. At home we are getting guys (especially Altuve) out easily, or making the first or third out at third base, and things like that. One thing is been aggressive, another one is making dumb outs.
16 pages after one game in a series. I remember the past couple of years when we would struggle to break 2 pages for all 3 games in the series.
Kazmir's high school coach said himself that Kazmir was the better pitcher though. He said if there was game 7 situation in high school playoffs, Kazmir would've gotten the ball.
Royals fans have been acting the same way. Like "who are these Astros". Well, who are you?! All these fans around MLB questioning the Astros, saying we think we're royalty. Just get on the bandwagon I say.
Yeah. Last night, his only mistake was the walk. Gets Cain to fly out weakly and induced a should have been double play ball from Hosmer.
0 hits / 0 walks might not tell the whole story. Were some of those outs line-drives and/or great plays made by the defense? This season, he's already had 3 HRs robbed by our outfielders, one of which a grand slam. Don't get me wrong, Sipp is no scrub. He just seems worse than his ERA suggests. His 2-4 record sounds more like it. He's definitely the bottom part of the bullpen, but not bad considering how good the bully is.
Only 2 line drives. Only 2 hard hit balls. His fielding independent stats suggest he should have given up 1 run over that time. So basically, he had a rough patch but has gotten over it. He may hit one starting today, but he's given good work recently. Just a matter if he can maintain it.
Today's starters are the most even matchup this series and will likely determine whether there's a rubber game or we sweep. Feldman (4-5) ERA 4.93 vs Duffy (4-4) ERA 4.22 Feldman has only allowed an .667 OPS vs KC's current lineup, but lookout for Cain and Gordon this game. They both have a career 1.065+ OPS vs Scott. In limited games vs Duffy, he's allowed an .892 OPS vs HOU. Injured Springer (2.714 OPS) killed him in his minimal ABs. Altuve, Marwin, and Carter all have 1.000+ OPS, so look for all of them in today's lineup. You're speaking in terms of 5 games.... I'm talking the entire season. Again, Sipp is no scrub. I'm just saying his ERA doesn't match the eye-test.
Interesting. I heard Coach McDonald speak a few times and have visited with him a time or two. In those settings he always just talked about how amazing it was to have two of the three dominant pitchers in the state on his team, and how easy it was to just put one of them in and let him go. The third one he talked about was actually James Loney who was probably not as dominant of a pitcher as Everts and Kazmir, but was plenty dominant on the mound. Kazmir had two things going against him draft wise that Everts didn't have. He was a stud two sport athlete as he was also a great QB in high school and was recruited to the University of Texas as a two sport athlete. So he had great options if he didn't like his draft situation. The other thing that caused Kazmir to drop a little was he had Boras as his agent and we all know how some teams viewed Boras in those days. Everts had a great start to his professional career also but never was able to get it back after some injuries. Not sure if he is still pitching, but like Kazmir he pitched for the Skeeters a couple of years ago just trying to hold and keep his pitching career alive.
Tonight is going to be a difficult game for the Astros to win, as i dont trust Feldman much. We are going to need to score 5 runs, can we do that against a lefty that is not bad??? 1. Altuve 2b 2. Tucker lf 3. Correa ss 4. Gattis dh 5. Rasmus rf 6. Gonzalez 3b 7. Carter 1b 8. Conger c 9. Marisnick cf Can this lineup score 5 runs???? Lets see
You said nearly every game. 6 straight decent to great arguments contradicts nearly every game he's been poor. He had a few really bad games..but overall he's been decent to good which is reflected in both defense dependent run prevention stats and defense independent stats. He's not flashy, but I like Sipp. I like the Astros pen. Besides getting a guy like Chapman, I am happy the way it is. Chapman would be really nice though.
An ERA of 2.86 is not indicative of a "decent to good" pitcher, it indicates a "good to very good" pitcher. Sipp is a decent or above-average pitcher who's fortunate to have a great defense behind him. It sounds like I'm hating on him, but I like Sipp.... he's a black pitcher and he's no scrub. I don't think the bully needs more help, or at least, I'm not willing to give up anything. If Sipp is your 5th or 6th best guy, you're ballin. Appears VV might get some run there too.
I prefer the whip when i see a reliever, why? Because the may come with men on base, or they leave man on base, and another pitcher helps get out of the jam. Now, with that said, for a second year in a row Sipp has whip under 1, which is GREAT. Still, i would like another lefty in the bullpen, right now they use Harris to match those lefties
I agree with you, our bullpen is very good. If we have to put them from best to worse, it would have to go this way: 1. Gergerson (incredible that he had a blown save last time because of Tucker) 2. Neshek 3. Harris 4. Sipp 5. Fields 6. Qualls (pitching good since coming from injury) 7. Hernandez (has done a great job as long reliever) I think VV will be here in the near future, and would make the bullpen even better. Still, like i said before, i would like another lefty on the bullpen. My ONLY concern on the group is Harris, because i think he is pitching better than his ability.
