By and large, Le$ Alexander hasn't been a good owner in terms of producing team success. He was fortunate enough to inherit a championship core that was built under a previous regime and was the beneficiary of the value of the Rockets rising as a result of Yao Ming. The majority of his teams, however, have been mediocre at best. He's cheap and doesn't like to pay the LT. Le$ is also a terrible public speaker and pretty classless when it comes to letting coaches go. He is a good business man though, which benefits him, but not a good owner from a fan/team perspective.

If you use a dollar sign instead of the letter S, it makes you look a lot more intelligent.

This comment about Les Alexander is as good as Kwame Brown's career in the NBA. Paying the Luxury Tax can cripple a team's cap flexibility. Cap flexibility helps you stay competitive. You go over the tax when you have a championship caliber team and those years the Rockets weren't anywhere close to being a championship caliber team.

Tinman isn't shy about the whole "pat on the back" thingy. I'm another recipient. Have to say, however, that this thread is kind of ridiculous. As I said earlier, Cuban is smart, but he's out-smarted himself. I think he has a large adolescent streak that gets in his way from time to time. It's been on full display this off-season. Alexander, in contrast, is all business. He hired a tremendous general manager and yes, he gets in his way occasionally, but largely lets him do his thing, something that has been highly successful. Alexander also had the brains to give him a new, lucrative contract, locking him up for the Rockets.

Would it be fun to have an owner with a "larger" personality? Someone more "fun?" Sure. I would enjoy that, but Les is who he is, and I do believe that he cares a great deal about winning. He cares about winning in the business world, and he cares about the Rockets winning championships. I think he really, really wants another trophy. It would put to bed that he bought a team on the verge of winning our two championships and that he's incapable of pulling that off on his own. Something I think is both understandable and a bit absurd.

The biggest knock on Alexander was not getting in the way of a very good GM but his handling of good yet headstrong coaches like JVG and Adelman.

He can only work long term with someone who is charismatic but might not be among the top coaches.

McHair has the chance to get better like the Houston team.

But if he is lucky enough to win a championship that is mostly because of the vast talents that Morey would have amassed by that time.

Adelman had nothing to do with Les... He wanted roster control and if he'd been given it, we'd still be a 40 win team.

And on JVG, Adelman was an upgrade.

Let us just say they did not have the best relationship either.

Because of Les' ineptitude to appeal to the media he hired Yes man McHale.

That was the cause of the whole storyline.

Why does an owner need to be appealing to the media? You need to be some sort of egotistical douchebag to think that being good at business means you're qualified to give basketball information. Talking to the media is the coaches job.

Jerry jones, George steinbrener, robert kraft, al davis, etc

The mavericks aren't a bad team no matter how much you hate them.

People complain about corporations not engaging and communicating. Have you talked to your ceo or owner? Assuming you work

Call it a hunch but Les is totally against tanking and rejected Morey's idea of going full Hinkie. He probably influenced the Lin signing and not putting a bullet into Yao the second time he broke his foot. Of course, there likely weren't better optimal alternatives around it's just those disasters could've been blunted with more flexibility and less marketing attachment...

As for McHale, it also benefits morei that he can go Billy beane on him. I don't think either of the past coaches would totally buy into the new look rockets

The mavericks have a coach and full support of their owner.

We can't even get Arya Stark

    Our coach has no name

If he goes through with the Dantoni hire, it'll be more than obvious that all he cares about is having a flashy offense to sell tickets.

DD approach here I come, "not a penny....or even a dime"

Seriously, **** this dip**** and his deception about digging into the tax and using this city's team to stuff his pockets.

I'm not even gonna bother with the deluded posters that have defended him and Morey. Lots of crow to be had in back and forths at the beginning of this thread.
