once again bballholic you are absolute while you like the rest of us know nothing of what's going on in Morrey's office.
    Ok.
The part about Dleagues first rounder is honestly ridiculous. Your hatred for Jones makes you unbearable when it comes to discussing about him.

He is just a player. Why do you hate him so much is beyond me. And don't pretend taht you don't , because anyone will tell you YOU are not objective. AT ALL. You can ask everyone here, and everyone in other forums and neutral fans and they will all tell you that you are extremely BIASED to think Jones is trash.

Maybe he doesn't have a long carreer. Maybe he will only end up being a pf off the bench. But his VALUE right now is nothing like you describe.

The only word you left out here was "another". He is just another player. That's not hate malakas. I don't hate him, either as a person or as a player. I have consistently said he's just another player. There is nothing about his skill set that distinguishes him as special in any way. He's just another player. And his weaknesses are what we need to be strengths. That being 3-point shooting, rebounding, and defense. He's below par on all of those 3 key skills that we need to move to championship level. Therefore he can't help us win. He can only help us lose by being on the floor and occupying a roster spot that could be used for a player that could help us win.

No, everyone here won't agree with you that I am not objective. Some would. I've been accused of not being objective about Terrence before. My response to you is find one statement I've made about Terrence that isn't objective. Just one.

Having a long or short career is not the discussion point. Just like many posters overvalued Lawson's trade value....so do you and others overvalue Terrence's trade value. It isn't there malakas. We can't get a first rounder for him.

You say I don't know. But I have known in the past that we were seeking a first for him. We couldn't get it then. And I do know that for an absolute fact. If we couldn't get it then....there's no way we can get a first for him now, malakas. It's totally unrealistic to expect a team to give up a first for him at this point.

No, but actually this is the most appropriate dumping ground for said random crackpot trade conversation.

And for the un-proven (most likely fake) insiders, this is probably where the random rumors should go too.

There has been ample time for Morey to trade for Ryan Anderson. Mostly back when the Asik/Anderson swap made sense for both teams. However, Morey for whatever reason just hasn't pursued him that much obviously.

So while I think a Ryan Anderson would make the Rockets offense deadly on paper, I'm not so sure the Rockets are targeting him as some here might try to rumor. Health is probably the major concern as well as his defensive issues.

    ......

That being said between the start of the season, and through Dec 15th, I fully expect a ton of rumors and crackpot trades to come up mostly revolving around KJ, and maybe even Beverley along with Jones or D-Mo (whoever gets bumped back in PT or if Harrell beats out one of them).

    ....

The big thing to watch out for, as Bima has noted, is to watch out for the Harrell contract which will dictate what the Rockets can do move wish the rest of the year.

If the Rockets using the remaining MLE, it will HARD CAP them and make it nearly impossible to take on additional salary or sign veterans. If that happens this random trade thread will be pretty useless because it will be hard to conjure up even a Ryan Anderson type of trade.

if the Rockets only give Harrell the minimum you could very well see a KJ one-year type of situation.

So before we really seriously discuss trades, I think we need to see whether or not the Rockets are going to be Hard Capped. If they avoid that, then we can get a whole lot more crazy with these trade scenarios.

you mean when he was injured with that weird and scary nerve injury? At his lowest trading value?

He may not be the best fit for the Rockets to help them win, however that isn't the only criterion that determines trading value..beause he can help other teams win where he is a better fit.

As with Lawson the criterion that lowered his value was his offcourt issues not his ability.

After the lottery esp next year (as it projects right now) the draft is a crapshoot. Dealing a latte pick in the 20s for Jones is equal value. Becaue the pick will bring you on one hand 4 cheap years but on the other it can be 4 cheap years of a scrub. Tim Hardway Jr. who is worse than Jones brought a first. He plays no defence, he doesn't rebound he has had reported clasing issues, he was injured in his wrist , he has shown no improvement whatsoever in his game and worst of all he is a chucker. And he brought back a first rounder. In a better draft than what next year projects to be (though it's too early to be sure).
Most of the trades you recommend are for someone in the range of 10 off the bench young scrub. Not Jones.

And besides this , you often forget one big truth. Youth and the promise of upside have resulted in many lopsided trades in the history of the league.
Even if you think Jones is the epitome of worthlessness for someone else he is a young player with much upside left that needs more time to develop.
And who was injured for most of last year.

So yeah..you are not being objective and if we made a poll (dont') the majority would vote that Jones is worth more than a late second rounder and a washed up done old player like Granger.

The problem is one. Managing of contracts. And this is the biggest reason Jones must be shipped out. Because as a backup he's good enough and will get even better. But you can't pay two at the same time.

I really don't see a need or reason for us to trade TJones at any point this season unless it is for a very clear upgrade at PF because we are good at pretty much every position, and we would be packaging other players in the deal also.

The fact that him and DMo will both need to be paid next year is not enough reason alone to ship him out for almost nothing as some are suggesting because 1) if he is really not worth much, he won't command much on the market next year as a salary and we can pay him like a backup as he continues to develop or just let him walk, or 2) if he improves and plays even better without injuries, his value will be up by the deadline so that we can get a much better package for him.

The worst that can happen is if he plays great and we aren't able to find a suitable trade package for him by the deadline, then he goes out and gets a big offer from someone next offseason that we decide not to match, and we lose him for nothing. But that also meant that he played great for us this year on a small contract and therefore was a great value and asset to the team. Then if we lose him like Parsons, so be it and we move on with DMo and find a cheap backup next year.

If he and DMo both play great this year and both get big offers that need to be paid next year, we can choose which one to keep and trade the other for much better than what others are suggesting now, even if it is not for their full value.

Trading for Ryan at the deadline is a legitimate move, but it's hard to see how we get the assets/salary to lineup, and as you mentioned.....the defensive issues.

With the acquisition of Lawson, I don't think we can play a no-defense power forward. We need almost all of our bigs to be at least solid defenders.

One option I could see is a TJones for Brandon Bass and a 2nd swap in December. Bass just signed a 2 year contract at $3 per.....very reasonable for his production.

Believe what you want. We won't get a first rounder for Terrence.

Put Terrence and Harrell together and you may squeeze out a low first. But not Terrence by himself.

I think Valanciunas' main problem is that he's just not a smart player, it's always been his big issue, even in Europe. He just tunnel visions something he wants to do offensively or defensively and doesn't adjust well. I think he's getting a bit better, and I think he could become an all star when he gets to his prime. But it will be a slow process.

Unfortunately for Toronto, the rest of their core players' primes are now, Valanciunas' probably just 5 years away.

Motiejunas isn't my favorite player, I kind of wanked my way into this login name. A few years ago I stumbled into this site and saw people discussing how to pronounce "Motiejunas." So I decided to comment on that one post, I didn't expect to stick around. That was also the time when everyone was calling everyone else fanboy or hater on this site. So, Donatasfanboy happened. :)

He did grow on me, I didn't really like him at all a few years ago. I didn't expect him to be more than a backup.

I think Motiejunas would be ok under Casey, although he might end up playing more minutes at center than Valanciunas.. I read a Casey comment some time ago that they will probably use Luis Scola or Patterson at center at the end of games for defensive reasons...

I am not saying the Rockets would or would not. All I am saying is that there are some GMs that give out 1st rounders for talent that is questionable.

Tim Hardaway Jr for the #19 2015 1st round pick?
Vasquez (who will be a FA after this season) for a Bucks 2016 1st round pick?

Who could have predicted those moves?

Ok. So lets address something else out there that is commonly tossed out. This idea all offseason (pre free agency) that Terrence's production is EASILY replaceable at a similar or lower cost, and the name that commonly got thrown out there was Brandon Bass.

When you put Bass' production side by side next to Terrence's, its clear to me (numbers don't lie) that Jones actually produces slightly better in nearly every category (FG%, Reb, AST, BLKs, PPG, etc.) even though he plays a slightly higher number of minutes, and probably has had a better pass first Lead Guard in Harden than Bass has ever had.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bassbr01.html

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/joneste01.html

While the eye test tells a slightly different story that Bass looks to be a much better team defender who is better coached on defense. The mid-range jumper is also in his arsenal that Jones obviously doesn't have, but then again we are talking about the Rockets, a team who values even a lower percentage 3 point shot over a higher percentage mid range shooter. Keep in mind that the Rockets took one of the greatest mid-range shooters the game has ever see in Jason Terry, and had him exclusively shooting 3's in Houston where he is certainly good, but its still not his personal pet shot.

So the main benefit I could see in trading for Brandon Bass would be if the Rockets were cash strapped enough to get 1 million bucks off the books, and swapping Jones for Bass.

Also I'm not sure if there is one or not, but maybe if he has a team option for next year, it could be a great bargain over gambling with Jones' pending restricted free agency.

So take this info as you will, but my conclusion isn't that I'm super high on Jones, its that I'm not really sold on Bass being a target that vastly improves the team.

    .........

Optimally, I think the best case scenario of what can happen is Morey striking huge with the two rookies this year, or Capela expanding his game & getting much stronger.

With Harrell, Dekker, Capela, and still some upside from D-Mo and... cough, cough... some other dude, I think any likely upgrade from one of these young guys living up to their potential far outweighs a trade for a veteran journeyman.

We will see though. Depth because of injuries will probably dictate these type of trades more than anything right now. That and if Morey goes star chasing again, and has the salaries of Ariza, McDaniels, Jones, etc. to play with.... but that's incredibly unlikely IMO.

I am still not satisfied with the depth at the wing positions. Behind Harden and Ariza (both played the most minutes on the team last year), we have Brewer. I know ClutchFans.net is in love with KJ but let's be honest he is still unproven. Time will tell. Similarly with Thornton and Dekker. I hope McHale gains confidence in one of those and doesn't wear our starting wings down. I would have loved a trade for Crawford. He is on a cheap contract and is stuck behind Reddick and Lance. I know the Clippers are the enemy but I would trade KJ and Harrell for him.

I think Crawford is really breaking down. He has been a Rockets killer in the past but he is going down hill.

If you like Crawford, just give Marcus Thornton a chance. He can do a lot that Crawford can do.

KJ has a lot of potential. Just wail on him some.

Bass is actually a slightly better finisher in the paint (not significant). The difference is that 80% of TJones shots are in the paint while only 53% of Bass' are. Neither take or rely significantly on the 3 pointer.

While 43% of Bass' shots are from mid-range, he's actually pretty good at making the ones from the wings and top of the key......something like 0.94 points per shot. That's equivalent to a 31.3% 3 point shooter, which while low, is workable in our system. Also, I think we could help him develop from the corners.

Regarding rebounding, he collects 62% of his chances, which is higher than TJones 54%. TJones does have the better contested rebound % though. I would call both "average".

But the main reason to trade for Bass is his defense, and this is really just by reputation. Bass hasn't played with a center the last few years, so I don't think you can judge him by his defensive stats.

He's signed to a very reasonable deal, and could easily be had when the Lakers are 10 under by mid-December and Randle is the starting PF.

It isn't exactly like this. First of all he will have a cap hold that will prevent us from going after a max fa next summer.
Secondly his trade value isn't like some here have said (a second rounder). If it was then OF COURSE the right course would be to keep him and see what he does in a contract year.
Thirdly trading for someone and giving him an offersheet is two different things.
All you have to look is how much money teams will have next summer. INSANE numbers. There are some teams that will have 40+ millions and these money MUST be spend only to reach the salary floor!!

Now let's look at next year free agents class :
    http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2014/09/2016-nba-free-agents.html

As you can see next years free agency class is crap.
And you can take out of it the best rfa like Drummond and MKG and Beal because their teams will either extend them or in the case of Beal wait to extend them next year.
When Parsons and Derozan is in the top 5-7 of a free agency class then you have some problems. Because most of the teams wont even go after the big names since they will have no hope to get them (Conley will resign with Grizz, already said so to Gasol, and then Horford good luck getting him to sign to a non contender team).
Where do you think these teams will look to spend their TONS of money on?
A young pf with some upside, that his team is too busy going after Durant, reupping Dwight , negotiating with DMO, potentially renouncing and resigning Lawson? Prime target numero uno.

Only stupid teams, go the route "if he finds a good offer we will let him get away" when the possibillity of him finding a good offer is 90%+. Morrey does NOT let assets go to waste like that, as he shouldn't.

LOL that will be so cool. I can't wait to see the Craptors get a low seed this year only to watch their crazy fans reactions. Casey is trully an idiot.

I also blame the coaching staff when it comes to Val because they made his problems WORSE. Even if DMO with his great work ethic and bball iq was drafted by the Raptors he wouldn't be as good as he is now. That team doesn't develop well players, and their coach doesnt' give them much of a chance.

Crawford is highly unlikely he remains in the Clippers. It has gotten to the point that he posts things in public. He already was very angry at Doc from February but now it has gotten worse. I dont' know where he will go though.

While you make some good points, there is no reason to believe that IF Terrence is kept the entire season (I never said he would be, just not given away for a Pu Pu Platter), that Morey won't match him, or do a sign and trade for an asset for a team that wants him since he is a RFA.

We don't even know what we have in DMo yet until he shows it on the court after his back surgery. For all we know, TJones could have an injury free year that breaks out and DMo is the one that is ended up traded or let go.
