There's a ton of ways to get us back under the luxury tax line. I doubt we will owe anything by the end of the season.

but in that case we'll be dumping a rotation guy in order to sit terry or hayes or harrell on the bench?

It's hurts to say this but i was thinking the same thing except pass on Hayes to prevent that logjam. He is not the same Chuck that gave a young Aldridge trouble. He will be at the end of the bench anyway. Might as well give those spots to the rooks.

We need a 3rd string pg and vetern presence, especially around someone like Lawson. Terry was also supposedly big in the film room sessions. Mchale and Harden were very high on him.

i agree with your post, i just can't fathom the front office paying lux tax on terry's contract, or at the same time salary dumping jones, etc.

Actually, I beg to differ. I think the Rockets WILL be taxpayers this season, although probably not with an exorbitant tax bill.

Even without counting Thornton, Terry, Hayes or Wood (who WILL collectively be guaranteed at least $2-3 million), and even assuming Harrell signs at the rookie minimum salary, that Rockets team would be over the tax threshold.

To get back under, the team would have to trade away a "core piece" or a high ceiling first round talent for less salary in return. I'm not so sure there are many trade options out there that would be palatable to a team (finally) stocked with talent all the way down the roster. (Maybe an "Adreine Payne" situation presents itself, where the Rockets deal someone like Dekker for a future protected pick; but that just doesn't strike me as great asset management unless Dekker simply isn't what the Rockets think he can be.)

Of course, we've seen a lot of crazy things happen, so I should [EDIT: not] rule out the Rockets ducking back under the tax. But I have a feeling they will just settle for being a taxpayer for this season, especially since the ultimate bill will not be that big. (And YES, I realize Les would be kissing goodbye to a potential chunk of money paid to non-taxpaying teams, especially if the Cavs continue their ascent into the luxury tax stratosphere.)

Yes, but the narrative that clutchfans love to throw around is that Les is cheap. What you are saying, contradicts the spew from certain people around here. What are you trying to do? Start a riot?

you don't need 2 hands to count the number of times les has magically gotten back under the lux tax line midseason?

Can someone make a thread about 'Official Signings'?

We have yet to sign Terry, Hayes, Wood, Harrell, and Thornton.

What's the hold up? I hope we don't lose these players.

    Meh.

Hayes and Wood don't matter much.

    We have Harrell's rights

Terry and Thornton are kind of redundant, we only need one of them.

Boozer, Calathes, Jenkins, Arthur, Seraphin, Hansbrough and others are all still on the market.

We really need Terry for off the court purposes. He's the vocal leader of this team.

definitely not true. Terry's championship experience is without a doubt needed. Thornton knows nothing about that

Probably shouldn't have said "ton" or that it's likely. Still, it's very possible that in a trade we would send out more salary than we receive now that we have several middle class players.

I would really like to have both Thorton and Terry. Terry for leadership purposes and Thorton to have a 3rd guard with some resemblance of playmaking ability.

He's the groundhog, where if winter is coming he'll tighten up and go back to sleep.

Les is all about big names and star power. If we have a definite legit chance, who knows?

Don't worry, Its still preseason. Bima has lots of time left to be proven wrong. But if he's right, I'll gladly join you in your riot.
