Uh, I like Harrell too, but I say that from a standpoint of a year or two of professional polishing under his belt... put him in now and he'll be fouling all over the place.
We will see how Harrell progresses. I see the main argument people have is that there is no way the Rockets want to pay both Jones and Donatas next Summer which I understand. However I would tell you to look back at how much Morey paid for the rental services of Prigioni last year. Two second rounders. The Rockets could very well have front court depth issues this year if he's traded and injuries happen. Then you look at what Jones is going to net you right now vs what it will cost in a mid season trade to acquire someone who might not even be as good as Jones. So I just see no reason why you'd trade him until you see that Harrell has clearly beat him out.
Harrell raised some big red flags to me during summer league, while there's a chance he could be the next Faried, there's a chance he never even makes it to Dorsey's level at the same time. I liked his flashy athletic dunks and blocks, but he has some serious positioning problems, and his motor and aggression seems to come and go for only short stints in the game. Again it was just summer league but Harrell seemed to have some worrisome problems, that second game of his he seemed to try to avoid rebounds with no effort at all to pursue the ball, he wouldn't even watch the ball come off the rim that game he was mentally checked out.
To your point, we simply don't know for a fact until he laces them up on an NBA court against NBA talent. And I think your point is valid.
Not really. You have lawson whose probably about to have one of the best years of his career as a pro while on the other hand you have an injury riddiled player whose on his last wheels as a player. The days of granger being part of a regular rotation are over.
Not for sure Granger is a regular rotation player. I'm not suggesting trading for him for that purpose. Terrence won't be a regular rotation player here next season either. Especially now that we've got both Harrell and Dekker aboard. There simply won't be minutes to give him. I'm suggesting trading for a player that better fits our immediate needs and getting a second rounder to go along with him...for whatever future potential Terrence has left before a decision to pay him has to be paid.
I'm not a part of the "we" that simply do not know if Harrell is better than Terrence. I already know. And that's not arrogance talking. That's experience talking. Terrence is just another athletic player that has a few moments every season (when given minutes) where he looks really good against a scrub opponent and then the rest of the time he's pedestrian to below average. Hoping, wishing, and thinking won't change that. Harrell already has a skill set that exceeds Terrence's. That's not saying Harrell is some great player. But rather after watching Terrence for 3 seasons in the pros, and 2 seasons at Kentucky before that, I know the limits of Terrence's skill-set. Terrence can dominate midget bigs like Carl Landry in the post when he gets the ball down low with no traffic. He can finish put backs and lobs when the D focuses on Harden/Howard and overplays them leaving him wide open. And he can dribble the ball up the court when he gets the defensive rebound. That's the limits of Terrence's skill-set. Harrell has a more widely varied skill set and is more skilled in the skills that are more pertinent to our team. I don't have to see him play for a season or 2 seasons or 3 seasons. I've already seen Terrence. And I've seen enough in the little bits that we have of Harrell to know that we won't lose one single thing if we replace Terrence with Harrell. Sure Harrell will have a learning curve and will get called for more fouls because he is a rookie player. Big deal. He most likely won't be getting regular rotation minutes anyways. Just like Terrence wouldn't. Harrell is the better player with the higher ceiling and same floor as Terrence.
Either was drafting Aaron Brooks with 5 PG on the roster. Not saying I approve of BHolic's point. Just saying that it can be done.
Not when you're in win now mode. That wouldn't make sense. If you're trying to build a team and find the price pieces to gain an identity first that's what you do. At this moment that doesn't apply. Don't even know why that was brought up when were talking about this team now in it's current state
Luther Head and Kyle Lowry were not pushing 30 at that time. In addition, you missed my point with your bean counter analysis.
I agree. I think Harrell will surprise folks, he's so aggressive and hungry. Terrence comes off as almost uninterested sometimes.
Lowry was not on the rockets team when brooks got drafted in 2007. And Luther head is not a pg. so yes all the other pgs on that team were pushing 30s. that point was irrelevant because both teams were in completely differently situations That trade makes no sense for this team. If you don't disagree with that then there's really wasn't a need to point out something that has nothing to do with the trade that was brought up
That doesn't makes lot of sense. But I wasn't arguing that. But it's all the same to you bean counter. Black or white.
