Jones for Granger? We would def need a 1st round pick back. We are loaded at the 3, trading our 23 year old growing PF for Granger would be terrible.
Keep TJones he is going to be a nice compliment to DMo. We don't need to move anyone else - we are good to go, just need health. DD
A bonfied contender moving their primary backup PF when their starting PF just had major back surgery in essentially a salary dump trade??? Had the Rockets brought back Smith I would totally be down to move Jones, but until Harrell shows something in the season, it would be pretty stupid to move Jones now seeing as though he's probably your best bet to start the regular season until DMo is back to 100%. That's not personal, and no agenda. Just common freaking sense. There is nobody yet that has made a logical explanation for moving Jones in a salary dump deal. I don't see the reason for the Jones trade wet dream. Move him but make sense in doing so in the process.
Here's the problem DD. Harrell is a better player than Terrence. Once they go to training camp and Harrell beats him down, now you've got a guy that is sitting the pine as the 6th big man, not getting any minutes, and his trade value further depreciating OR You've got to somehow hide Harrell in dleague and run Terrence out there in hopes that he increases his trade value..... which he likely will not do seeing as the league has him figured out at this point. It would be best for Terrence to go to a young non-contending team that will play him on a regular basis, give him the basketball and let him expand his game by becoming a playmaker. We can't afford to do that with him here. And that's his only chance to increase his trade and free-agent salary value. And making a play with the ball in his hands is Terrence's only real ticket to a big money contract and long-term success in this league. He's simply not good enough defensively nor as a spot-up shooter, nor as a finisher against the giants, to warrant a big contract and rotation minutes on any team that is contending for the playoffs/championship. Our big man rotation is essentially set anyways with Dwight, DMo, and Capela. Terrence is, right now, at best, the 4th big. There's only 96 minutes at the 4/5 slots and we're gonna be playing small anyways some of the time. And Terrence is really not even the 4th big because Harrell is better. Jones needs to be traded for a big 7-footer that can rebound at a high rate or a really good 3-point shooting stretch 4 that will flat pull it for us when we need it.
We definitely don't want to trade TJones at this point. Maybe if Harrell shows that he can step in and play full time rotation minutes TJones will be expendable. Right now I agree with you. What we need is a good healthy off-season and to get TJones and DMo both starting the season healthy.
You guys think Harrell is already better than T Jones after a hand full of Summer League games, really?
Nope. After a handful of Summer League games, 2 years of playoff meltdowns, and 3 seasons of underperformance against the league's better teams. Harrell is bigger, stronger, longer, faster, more athletic, more skilled, more focused, and more determined than Terrence is. And he's a first year rookie. It's time to move on.
sidenote: but given his volume of posting on multiple accounts HERE (let alone elsewhere - and would any of us be surprised to know he is posting under multiple accounts on other boards?), one might sadly assume that this IS his real world. Perhaps why he gets so dogmatic about his ideas?
Before the injuries Jones was playing very good. So why do he have to prove himself all over again? And we all know that Harrell will not see any real time minutes when the regular season start. Mchale is very hard on rookies, Harrell will be sent down to the D League.
Only in Holic's world SF3ISBACK. Lol the man had one good game in the summer league and he's better. Wow and LOL
Harrell hasn't even played 1 d-league game yet and you think he's already better then Jones? Either severely overrating Harrell, or severely underrating Jones. Jones is a solid young, player, who has shown how versatile he can be with ball handling, finishing ability, rebounding, shot blocking and yes, even jump shot. He's only 23 and still has plenty of potential. Jones has only played about 1.5 seasons worth of games since entering the league due to 1, being stuck in D-league his rookie season and 2, a couple of random freak injuries (nerve and lung injury). I personally want to see Jones get another full season before trading him. And it's not like he needs to improve any more to be a valuable nba player either, he's already good enough for a full time backup role. 12 points, 7 boards, 1.5 blocks shooting 52+% are very good #'s for a 23 year old on a contender.
I have read this entire thread. It has been really ammusing and very interesting. I'll just say some posters don't have any class and some need a little more tact. Why are we discussing Jones trade in a Lawson thread? I'll pile on. Unless we get another steal of an offer I'd stash Harrell in the D-league, give Jones a chance to see if he has matured and can get his game going after having a great start last year then getting derailed with the freak nerve injury. Morey likes to buy low and I am sure he wants to sell high. Jones is low now but playing some healthy minutes and showing some flash will help draw interest from a team needing a young 4 that might have more room to grow. He isn't as worthless as some think he is but he has value and maybe he could increase it by the deadline. Mean while Harrell can get minutes and perfect his craft. By waiting we get to see what our team really needs. What if D-Mo's back flares up? What if Lawson decides driving and drinking is worth the risk again? What if Beverley gets another knee issue? So unless a rebouding power forward that can hit 40% from the corners comes available before camp I'm sticking with Jones.
I like Harrell and with the aggression and athleticism that he plays with he very well could be better than TJ in almost from the start. But that is a big if. To your point he hasn't played a single NBA game in the big show or the D-League yet. If we knew for a fact he was going to be better than TJ from day 1 he would not have been a 2nd round pick. If people really did know for a fact that one payer would be better than another player you would never have guys like Kwame Brown drafted with the 1st pick and guys like DeAndre jordan drafted in the 2nd round.
