I would shoot on sight anyone that told you Season 2 of The Wire was good.

I'm looking forward to when all these posters actually do decide to stop watching and stop flooding this thread with their hate. We get it, you don't like the show - you come in here every week to tell us that. Stop watching it then!

I kinda called the Ray-Frank angle a while back, although I thought the real rapist might have been Frank's henchman. So I guess I was only half right about it. Velcoro seems to be cleaned up and is likely to go on a rampage against Frank and his crew -- setting up for a good finish I think.

I'm still watching, but it is only because of Colin Farrell. I can't believe I'm saying that after we all thought he'd be the weak part when the cast was announced. Velcoro is literally the only character I give a single **** about. Paully PTSD will leave that poor hispanic girl pregnant and go on a bathhouse bender and then off himself. Ani will end up having a threesome with Velcoro and the scarface girl from the bar and then end up working as a cam girl. Frank's wife is probably about to die and then he will go on some stupid revenge rampage and end up dead too.

Cue sad girl in the bar music.

Frank is too tall, like he has that big man's disease. Not handsome-tall. It takes you out of the scene. Their dialogue should focus on his freakish height to be realistic. He overcame this physical disability to be a self-made mobster. That's the heart-warming, underdog story we could get behind.

Faster paced episode, I do not care about Franks character at all, maybe if it was a different actor sure but him and his sexy red head need to get less camera time.

Story feels like its finally going somewhere. I don't get the negativity atm, at least we are getting deeper into the story now...

I don't think this season has been great, I'd probably agree that it hasn't even been good, but I still look forward to every episode. I guess I'm just curious. Agreed with Moe, Velcoro is the only character I'm really invested in.

They could've easily condensed everything down to two episodes and greatly improved the pacing.

If all the posters who hate this season stop posting here...you might be the only one posting here. Can't blame them. It's like group therapy in here. We all meet to tell each other "that episode sucked too huh?" and then "next week they'll get it together".

This last episode was the first where I truly just checked out and started surfing the web. Semyon, Woodrugh and Bezzerides are just uninteresting, flat, and boring. I probably watched the preview for this season a few dozen times so it's amazing to me just how bad this season has been.

I actually like the last couple bc the plot has been faster developing. And this year, it's all about the plot (and Velcoro). RM has also stopped smoking ECigs after the shootout.

True Detective is about multiple story lines slowly converging ... and the paranoia of powerful people engaged in acts of depravity beyond the reach of the common man.

    Enjoy the foreboding.

If it wasn't for season 1, I don't think I would have even give season 2 a chance after episode 1.

That being said, 5 episodes in & I feel the exact same. Horrible season thus far but anything can change...

I would stop watching but I only have 3 episodes to go, it's to late to turn back.

Season 2 of any show really seems to be the low point for every series. Even GOT & Breaking Bad's season 2 was a drag until the end.

When I read through the breadcrumbs left in episodes 3 & 4 I got pretty excited where we were going (Guerneville stuff). We just now made our way up north Ventura where it seems like the major WTF stuff is about to happen once Ani infiltrates the "parties".

However, this might have been a much more effective build up if the series was focused on viewing this through the eyes of one central character that was fully fleshed out. Thats a good reason why Breaking Bad, even in season 2 ended up working out in the end of a low season. Where they ended up going in the end felt earned because of being so able to understand our central character & the way he views this world.

I like Velcoro/Ferrell but I feel like him and VV are in a different series than Ani/Paul in their quest up north. The big question I so far is how do these two pairings have any consequences on another?

True Detective obviously will get another crack in Season 3 if they want it. I love the idea of the existential moody crime detective drama that is centered around the occult. Learn from your Season 2 TV Series sins Pizzolato.

Not sure they'll want it. The writer wasn't even sure he'd do a season 2. The mood struck him, he thought he had something, and HBO let him roll with it. Good or bad I don't think they'll force a 3rd season if the inspiration isn't there.

Aside from that - I figured it out on Semyon/Vaughn. It isn't that Vaughn is a bad actor. I think he's fine in a serious role. It's that the writing for that character is so terrible.

Then I realized (lulz).... if you just make Semyon dumb, the character and the lines completely work. Envision an uneducated, humorous guy dropping those terrible lines. Like Joe Pesci.

"Eyyyyy, whatdyaaa mean here, guy, you're giving me blue balls in my hearttttt, cahmonnnnnnnnn, you're bustin' my ballls here."

    Or.

"We got one of dem, as they say in the old country, moot points. Faghettttaboutitttttt"

Now it actually works. Vaughn was so starved for a serious role he's playing a joke role serious, meanwhile, Colin Farrell is nailing top-of-the-line dark comedy 1-liners as if the Coen brothers are writing him.

Same here. I don't get all the whining about it. It's not as good as season 1 but it's not as bad as some are making it out to be and it's actually better than I thought it'd be despite the obvious flaws we've all seen. (I expected it to be much worse).

Lol wut? WTH does that have to do with the acting and the writing on the show?

People actually physically forced you to watch Season 2 of The Wire?
Some fans did actually like season 2 of The Wire. Not sure anyone thinks it was a fantastic season or the best in the series but it was still a good season imo (but I guess we should save that discussion for the actual thread about The Wire).

I just finished Season 1 of The Wire, binging the last 3/4 episodes Saturday night b/c it's that good. About 2 episodes into Season 2, so can't say much about the quality yet.

I put off watching it for so long b/c I lived in Baltimore during it's run and I didn't need any further immersion into that world.
