The last 2 years our biggest issue has been on the defensive rebounding glass. We would play great defense, then DMo+Jones would fail to box-out on the glass and they would get easy buckets.

Not having a strong rebounder next to Dwight really limits him as a defender. In Orlando he was a game-changing defender because his team was the one of the best team on the defensive glass. He was able to roam around and do his thing on defense. He can't play that same way over here because if he does, it would more than often result in an easy put back bucket.

I'm curious what Morey will do about it. I don't think it's a huge weakness because we make up for it on the offensive glass. Our defense was still excellent despite it, but it would help tons if we can pick up a strong rebounder next to Dwight. Harell is a good rebounder, but until he ever develops a good jumper (which he has potential to) he won't be getting playing time IMO.

Boozer's a solid defensive rebounder, he may be an option if he's willing to vet min.

the other holes we need to fill up are elite 3-point shooting and a consistent PF with offense

I wonder if we'll see some Twin Towers line ups with Howard and Capela.

Is this not crazy? We get Harden when looking for that star player. We get Dwight when we all wanted Dwight. Moat wanted Smith and Brewer and we got Smith and Brewer and now Lawson. Lawson has been the talk for two years as a possible Rockets PG and look at us now.

A complete team. Now we have 3 roster spots that we can give to our new prospects (Harrell, Dekker, Alan Williams). Imagine if Harrell becomes a defensive specimen and Dekker becomes another scorer off the bench.

This is our championship window. Welcome boys.

D-mo almost never fails to box out, he's one of the most consistent box outers (?) in the league. In fact he might do it too much instead of attacking a rebound. D-Mo will be great next to Howard, and the starting 5 should rebound very well.

Jones on the other hand is abysmal at boxing out, it's one if his in game awareness issues that kills his overall value. Capela looks to be a good rebounder, but we will see how he fares getting regular minutes.

    1. 3pt shooting coach (our players seem to all get crappier when they come here)
    2. FT shooting coach (our players seem to all get crappier when they come here)
    3. Keith Jones (our players seem to all get glassier when they come here)

This is one of the areas where improvement will probably have to come from within. Barring a big trade, we probably just don't have the minutes for another impact player.

Howard and Capela are a good start and Harrell may be a contributor by the end of the year. We are close ladies and gents!

this shouldnt be a problem. if dmo can play his real position, pf, not plya a lotta center, and pans out then the def reb shouldnt be a problem.
then u got ariza, harden and bev who are good rebounding wings. and in the playoffs rox avg'd the 5th most rpg.

What about Reggie Evans at that last roster spot. Still a great rebounder at his age. Could be this teams version of Larry Smith, I miss me some Mr. Mean.

We don't have prime-superDwight, but defensive rebound has to be a team effort.

Last two years our defensive rebounding has been week but it could be attributed to a couple 9f factors:
2014 - The team, other than Asik, Howard and Bev was so offensively focused that everyone would leak out before the ball was even secured. Plus, it's impossible to get defensive rebounds when the other team is making everything and the Rockets' defense was barely stopping people.
2015 - We started off as a pretty decent defensive rebounding team but it quickly went south when Dwight was hurt. Team had Tarik Black and Dorsey at center who are barely 6'8.

Hopefully with Howard healthy and Capela getting time, the rebounding numbers will naturally increas . But at the end of the day, it's going to be a team effort.

I would love to have him. How much cap room do the Rockets have after signing Lawson?

Sign Alan Williams. Dude's best asset is that he is ferocious rebounder, which easily translates to the next level. If anything, he is insurance if Howard misses time.

Kendrick Perkins is the first domino to fall among the vet min guys. (I fully assume that Kevin Seraphin will get more from someone)

If we dont get Perk, maybe Chuck Hayes, but I don't know what shape he is in, he didnt play much in TOR.

Alan Williams will probably get called by a team where he would play...

This Wood kid, I still think he is a decent project, and we have him under contract. Maybe if we whiff on Perk and Chuck is no longer in basketball condition, we keep Wood as the 15th guy (assuming JET signs)

    So:

    C: Howard/Capela/(one of Perk/Hayes/Wood/Boozer/Alan Williams?)
    PF: DMO/TJ/Montrzllll
    SF: Ariza/Brew/Dekker
    SG: Beard/Thornton/KJ
    PG: Ty/Bev/JET

    That's 15

I'm a huge fan of improving defensive rebounding. HUGE. I don't think it's in DMo or Jones' skillset either.

I LOVE Hayes but we need someone that can play real, prolonged minutes next to Dwight without sacrificing offense. Capella could use an anchor too, he's too thin in the pants right now.

I also don't trust rookies playing big minutes in the playoffs. You see a guy like Capella have a great series but that's not even good enough to get us where we need to be. You can never depend on a rookie. Anything you get out of a rookie in the playoffs is icing on the cake. Sam Cassell aside, it's just not something that happens very often. You have to have a veteran there - we're contending now, not later.

If we can find a way to address defensive rebounding without taking a hit on offense we're going to be running on 93 octane. I'd MUCH rather have a defensive rebounder as opposed to a stretch 4.

Agreed. The best thing we can do is get a stretch 4 that can rebound, which is easier said than done..
