To be fair, when he came into the league he had Melo, Billups & a pretty good team. Since then, the Nuggets have been close to terrible roster wise. When you are the 1st option, creator & assist man on a bad team your percentage numbers will drop. Defense's will eventually key in on you. With us he will have less responsibilities and will be able to get better looks playing off Harden
that's still not clear to me…..this is if a team assumes his $5M contract, rite? but if nobody picks him up after a certain period (2days?) then he must negotiate a new contract w/ another team? and that team can't be HOU unless he waits a full 30days? is what i just wrote all complete bs?
hey I'm not cap expert. But what I can tell you is this. When the phrase "picking someone off waivers" is used it means you assume ALL of his contract. It takes 48 hours for someone to clear waivers and team with the worst record have priority on calling dibs. After someone clears waivers they are an ufa and are free to sign wherever they want as far I know.
Lawson is actually a good, not great, three point shooter. He is very good in spot up situations. In Denver, he was the featured offensive option which he is not. In Houston he will be a number 2/3 option. If his head is on right, he can have a career resurgence in Houston. Hopefully this new situation and people doubting him will be a wake up call for him.
ok so, i'm not sure any team will want to pay him $5M to play this season, so let's assume he clears waivers. in that case, i seem to recall SAS pioneering the 'trade a player you know will get immediately waived and then pick him back up' move…..and the league instilled some sort of rule against the team he just got traded from picking him back up. just not sure if it's for 30days, the whole season, or what...
That's my understanding as well. If he clears waivers like Smith did than as a UFA the player can go anywhere and sign for whatever a team will give him. But just like any other UFA it'd have to be cap space, some exception (MLE,TPE,BAE, etc), or just the vet min.
Denver can waive or release any one of Dorsey, Papanikolaou, Johnson & Prigioni but none of them can return to Houston for at least a year.

Virtually (from our playoff team that made it to the WCF) we traded Smith for Lawson and Thornton while gaining DMo and Beverley from injury. I'm happy with that!
Thanx j.r and rockbox. I hope he finds a team to play with even if he's waived. There are some with forward holes still.
Ok. I am confused. Articles I read about this trade mention that Ty has been "deep in the playoffs" before. I am looking at bball ref and it shows a max run of 7 games. That is McGrady kind of deep. What am I missing here.
