Either would be fantastic pickups and I can see Singleton being moved as it's just not working.

I wonder how Carter's injury will affect their willingness to move Singleton, unless they get a 1B back...

Looks like Presley was just DFA -- could lead to a minor trade for him.

either would be decent gets, but i'll be shocked if the main bat we add is not a 1B.

I personally wouldn't look to add a bat. Springer (who could be back in 4 weeks) and Lowrie (possibly back even sooner) will be back before the playoff run in September. With them, our offense will be potent once again, and you can likely just place Lowrie at 1B to fix our offensive hole at the position.

Depth to the rotation is where the Astros are EXTREMELY week. I don't necessarily think we go for Hamels, but a guy that is a very solid #3, i.e. better than Colin, will make us a very well-rounded team.

It is very possible they are looking at bat and starter.

An offense that trots out that garbage at 1st, DH and C isn't going to do much. Would love to exploit the Brewers desire to shed salary and get Lind and Parra. Two quality contact bats with extra base potential.... You add Parra, Lind, Lowrie and Singleton to what we have now and we are substantially better offensively and defensively.
Pitching wise you cast a wide net and see who will take lesser prospects of give you a guy you have longer control over. I would try to get one of these relievers too... I would move Tucker for one of the Giles, Capps, Smith types with power arms and under team control for years. Tucker will be a nice player but I don't think there is a place for him long term.

Catchers typically suck at hitting. Astros catchers are tenth in RC+.

I agree about position player and pitcher. I think Astros are looking at a position player that is under club control for 3 or more years and a pitcher that doesn't cost Phillips or two top ten prospects.

    Trade Hinch for a MAN

That would help, otherwise we are gonna be abused

Good luck getting position players that make a noticeable improvement and are under club control for 3 or more years and don't cost top prospects.

I have thought for a month they would look at Parra, Lind and Gomez but Gomez is too expensive. I think Lind has value as he has a club option next year and Parra won't cost much. I wouldn't be shocked if they nose around for a reliever either that is under long term club control. Capps, Smith, Giles and a few others.

There are reports that there may be more pitchers available than expected, I certainly hope so.

The Pirates would probably like to de-emphasize Pedro Alvarez, reports Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The former third baseman has continued his defensive ineptitude at first base with 15 errors. He’s also offered a .233/.299/.424 slash which is well below average for a first baseman. Unfortunately, the Pirates will have to look outside of the organization to move beyond Alvarez. Adam Lind is probably the most notable first baseman on the trade market. If the Pirates get creative, they could also try a three-team swap for Jon Singleton. Typically, Pittsburgh will look for fringier options like Chris Parmelee. We heard earlier this evening that the Orioles may soon designate Parmelee for assignment.

Well, A.J. Hinch is 41 years old, so he is a man.

The biggest hole in the lineup is catcher.

I would give up whatever it took to get Lucroy. When have the Astros ever had an all around great catcher. Appel/Valasquez/Santana/Singleton would a starting point.

An all star Catcher/3 hole hitter is worth that much.

Hitting .237 with 3HRs this year. Probably need to include Phillips as well.

Meant not giving up a lot for rental pitcher. Expect Astros would give up a lot includibg top prospprosprospects for position player with club control prior to free agency.

And yea for the record I think AJ had done a good job

Gomez is only signed through next year. He would be a solid pickup. Any deal for an OF would involve moving Marisnick or Tucker, IMO.

I do like Lind for this team. Singleton/Carter have been useless this season, and Lind would be an immediate improvement.

Jonathan Lucroy? you do realize Castro has a higher OPS and WAR than him.

Astros catchers are 11th in OPS and 7th in WAR. That's their MLB rankings not AL only. Catcher has not been a problem versus league average for the position.

50-43; they have 10 games(including today) before the deadline. (BOS, @KC, LAA)

If they struggle, are you [more likely][less likely][no more or less likely] to make a trade?

Depends. I think they will try and make a move for a young guy with control regardless. We may see a rental as long as they play .500 over the next 10 IMHO.

If they're still in the playoff chase, more likely.

At full strength (with a healthy Springer, Lowrie), this team can make some noise in a wide open AL... but they still need more pitching and perhaps one more consistent bat to make up for the lack of those guys for another month.

Pretty sure they'll make a move regardless of where they are, simply to clear up some of the superfluous prospects that are causing some organizational traffic jams.

Agree, as long as nothing really bad happens I think we make a move or two for sure

    1) You are never guaranteed to have another chance next couple of years, regardless of how much it seems like we will

    2) As you said, the AL is wide open this year, if you make the playoffs you have a legit chance of winning it
