He signed a veteran minimum one year deal so all of your logic gets flushed. Smith is in line for one more decent contract, he needs guaranteed PT to get it, which is clearly available in LA and not in Htown.
There's pretty much 4 players total that can play PF in Houston where as in LA he'll have significant playing time at the 4 or even god forbid at the 3. Here he would still have to fight for playing time and we all know how incredibly inconsistent he is. His playing time along with Jones/DMo would change almost every game.
Have you read anything I've said? It wasn't about money - it was about respect! The Clips wanted him and showed they wanted him by giving him whatever they could... We coulda given him 4.5M but said - naw, yer only worth 2.5 to us.... PT? DMo coming off injury is more likely to provide an opportunity than playing behind Griffin... and to say TJ or Harrell would cut into his minutes is like sayin Capella will be limited due to Dorsey! LOL!
Clearly Morey and his stat geeks don't see any value with Smith to offer significantly more money. I'm OK with that.
Brew also doesn't have as many redundancies at his position and isn't getting paid by Detroit. Smith didn't want to compete with Dmo and Tjones for time. Smith is also looking for his next deal when the cap shoots up. If he doesn't get time, he could be stuck at Vets min for a while. It is like when Morey traded Brooks, AB wasn't going to get playing time and he was going to hit FA the following season. By getting a stint with the nuggets he was able to score successive deals with the Bulls. Smoove is just thinking about the deal after this deal.
50 pages, wow. Smith was an integral part in beating the Clippers. He was also an integral part in getting hammered by the Dubs. Good luck to him; the ride was fun.
LOL at you thinking Jones is comparable to Dorsey. Jones had several good stretches of really solid play last year. Injuries are what slowed him down. Smith's erratic play could have landed him behind Jones in the rotation when Jones was playing well.
Given that he onlly started 8 playoff games to Jones 9 this is a very tenuous assumption - obviously one that Josh Smith wasn't confident in making. Not only "could have" - it actually did which is why Jones was the starter going into the playoffs.
As great as Smith played in game 6 against the clips and how memorable that was, it doesn't change the fact that Smith was wildly inconsistent throughout his time here. For every good game he had, came a stretch of wtf smith games after. Houston's system allowed Smith to play freely. We'll see how that plays out in LA but I don't anticipate Smith getting as much freedom as he did here. As long as all of our frontcourt players stay relatively healthy, the rockets will be fine.
my understanding is we have 4.5 left of the MLE... if im off a few bucks - regardless... If you go to your buddies and say you need money... 1 friend is willing to give you his last dollar... another friend has $4.50 (or 5.50) and is willing to give you 2.5... who is the better friend?
so the Rockets should cap themselves out every year and instead of breaking the bank for a third star, offer the veteran minimum becuase it makes them better friends!
No one because I'm not friends with anyone. I'm pretending to be good to one 'friend' where I still almost get close to the same amount of money and where I get to play the most. I also get to showoff to other people how good of a 'friend' i am and hopefully those people become my 'friends' and are willing to let me borrow 10$
you can speculate all you want. nothing wrong with that logic but Smith chose to leave supposedly for a defined role. Whether you want to believe what was reported is your choice but it doesn't mean you're right
its nice to hear that is how you measure friendship. No context as to why the other one can only offer you so much.
Smith took one for the team and was willing to come off the bench to help the team flow.... To think TJones is equal to or better than Smith is ridiculous! TJones had a couple good games and a couple decent stretches.... but he's a career backup at best...
Did you forget that Smith came to the Rockets and we said he would start? He started and then LOST his job to TJones. I'm not saying TJones is better than Smith or vice versa but those two players are very inconsistent and throw in DMo to take some playing time at the 4, Smith would have to earn to his playing time each night.
