Exactly. This feels like a bargain bin repeat of the Parsons situation from last summer with the player we were hoping to retain jumping the gun because they got sick of waiting. This one is a head-scratcher, but I trust DM. There's no way, with obvious weaknesses and our WC rivals getting better, that his plan is to sit idly without upgrading the roster.
I loved J. Smith in Rockets, but I think he made a bad decision by going to LAC. What made J. Smith great was that he had the ball in his hand on offense and can make plays. He mostly won't have that option with C. Paul and B. Griffin taking majority of the possessions. We will see how they incorporate him in the offense. He can't play well off the ball. His defense is great at 4 but if he wants more minutes than he will play at 3. He can't guard 3's because his best ability is to block shots and rebound. I am sorry to say Josh, but you will be disappointed in LAC because what they promised you, they can't deliver. Hopefully you get mad and ruin team chemistry. Good luck to you Josh...It was a pleasure to watch you in playoffs.
Don't you think though that if your Morey you wait and see how TJ comes back along with DMO and find out who you run with for the future. I saw TJ in RGV and guy has handles and can create. Dmo def better team defender, good down low, and you started to see his three get better at end of year! Looks more like a Feb trade move imo
So i guess milkhair can hack a DJ and JSmoove now! Bring back the chuckwagon and Scoooopola! (maybe just one of the two)
damn. regardless it's all about seeding next spring. I see all this stuff about other teams secondary to the naked gospel truth: San Antonio is loaded. That's what we're up against.
If the Clippers start Smith at the 3, this move will make a lot more sense. He's interested in FA approaching in a year and he doesn't want to get penciled in as only a bench guy in hopes of landing one more large deal.
I think you pretty much nailed Smith's mindset on this whole situation. However, I would disagree that losing Smith is not a big loss. Smith was often late to rotate, but he was a very effective one on one defender for us, bes.ides being a secondary playmaker for us. Very good passer for a big man. Big loss, my friends.
Isn't the 3 where Lance Stephenson/Paul Pierce going to play? I still don't see what definitive role they sold Josh Smith when he could've started at the 4 for us.
What could Morey do? I was mad at him earlier, but Smith took less money and a diminished role to join the Clippers. For Smith to leave the organization that restored his reputation, gave him as much freedom offensively as hes ever had, and leave a coach that truly believed in him and loved him showed his true character. Smith is a dumb a** that can easily be swayed into poor situations.
Loosing Josh is a bummer, but not a killer. I really liked him as a Rocket, but he chose perceived playing time over us. That's his choice. Good luck, Josh (except against us of, course :grin.
It's a headscratcher unless as love gets heavy minutes at the 3. If he doesn't I will seriously question Morey's recruiting methods. IMO Smith meant more to the team than Brewer (didn't think so initially). He added an extra dynamic that can no longer be filled and makes a secondary playmaker a MUST this offseason. Lose Parsons, get Ariza. Ok good. Lose Smoove get...KJ freaking McDaniels?!?! I'd have upped the $$, personally.
