Please forgive the lack of knowledge on the subject, but how much longer could this possibly drag out? I know that once KJ signs an offer, the Rockets then have 3 days to match or let him walk. My question is: is there a deadline for other teams in regards to the latest they are allowed to make an offer to a rfa? Also, if no other team signs him to an offer, does his salary for 15-16 then become the qualifying offer that has already been extended? Just a little unclear on those 2 issues...any info to give some clarity would be greatly appreciated.
If any team thought he would be worth the full MLE, they would have offered him that already because Morey is not going to match that when he has Harden, Brewer, Ariza and Thornton; and take on a salary that would eat up cap space, all based on possible untapped potential.
Eric Bledsoe finally signed his contract on Sept 24th. Greg Monroe signed his qualifying offer Sept 4th. Tristan Thompson is still not signed. The Rockets still have the MLE so they can offer anything up to the MLE and can match anything he is offered up to his max as long as they have their full MLE. It appears to be a waiting game between the parties.
Smith case is tied to Kj's case right now. That's why we wait and wait. The question is how more long can Smith be waiting. Although It seems likely he already has made his choise to resign here because there are not many teams that can offer him money now.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q44 A qualifying offer automatically expires on October 1, unless it is extended by the team (which is rarely done). A qualifying offer cannot be extended past March 1. If the deadline passes and the qualifying offer is neither withdrawn nor accepted, the player continues to be a restricted free agent. The team and player are free to negotiate a new contract after the qualifying offer expires -- the deadline only affects the player's ability to accept his qualifying offer. An offer sheet cannot be signed after March 1. If the player does not sign an offer sheet by that date, his only choice is to re-sign with his previous team (or remain unsigned for the rest of the season). This happened with Wilson Chandler, who signed in China during the 2011 lockout and did not return to the NBA until after March 1, 2012. Chandler ended up re-signing with the Nuggets to a five-year contract shortly after returning to the United States. Hopefully KJ won't pull a Wilson Chandler and sign in China.
That Charlotte team at the top is the Bobcats, not the current Charlotte Hornets team, I don't understand that site, terrible site IMO.
Wait we're talking about teams that might offer KJ greater than full MLE? I'm so confused. An >MLE guy couldn't get more than 33 minutes TOTAL on our squad?
Thank you. This is ridiculous. We are very aware that there will be a cap rise. As great as that increase will be, it will not justify him getting the full MLE. Now people are saying he's going to pull a Jimmy Butler. What do you guys base your analysis on??? I'm not saying Hinkie is the best GM, but he gave away this guy for scraps. Does that tell you something? No? Not a single team has made him an offer. Not every team is going to tell themselves "Houston is definitely going to match a full MLE so why should we bother" That's not enough proof. Well then why don't you just look at his stats. Maybe that'll show you that he's not getting the full MLE.
Based on this thread it seems people thinking he's getting the full MLE is the majority. That's just proof that most posters on here are biased as hell when it comes to our players and suffer from severe homerism.
I think lack of movement on the josh and KJ fronts mean the rockets are waiting for their rooks to be eligible to trade. I think there are probably several scenarios in the works and they want to see how all the pieces fall before doing anything significant with either.
Well, it's proof of something, but I'm not sure that's it. You're basing your conclusion that the majority of CF posters suffer from severe homerism on the 300+ posts in this thread (many of which are by the same members), while there are almost 52,000 members on the forum. I think it's popular to believe that Houston Rockets fans are biased towards Houston Rockets players, but I don't think this thread is proof of it. I do think you're on the right track, though. It does seem like many members believe McDaniels is worth more than the market says he is. You're right that his stats don't even come close to describing a player making the full MLE, even if they're modified for per 36 minutes. Add on the fact that he only logged 33 total minutes with Houston after being traded here, and that tells us that he wasn't ready to contribute to the success of a contending team. I may be wrong, but I believe the MLE exists in the first place so that experienced impact players are not penalized in salary because of salary cap ramifications. McDaniels isn't experienced, is not an impact player, and hasn't shown the ability to make the rotation on a contending team. He is only an asset at this point because of his potential to improve. You don't pay those guys your highest paid exceptions. You pay them equivalent to their rookie scale, in this case as the 32nd pick in the 2014-15 draft.
All those players you mentioned had a respectable body of work that made them valuable in the free agent market. McDaniels has done almost nothing in the pros so far. He's been in the NBA one season and played alright for a horrible Sixers team and then rode the bench almost the entire time after being traded to the Rockets. I don't know what the holdup is between the Rockets and McDaniels, but there's no way in hell he's getting the MLE from anyone. He'd be lucky to get half that amount.
