Signed Tim Duncan and Jason Terry. He's only 32 years old and he's still knows how to move his feet and strip a basketball when defending. He can help teach the inexperienced Capela the finer art of playing defense as well. Its a no brainer to sign him. David West with the Spurs is 35 years old and the Spurs win with old veterans because they know how to win. Who would have thought that Jason Terry would have played as well as he played for 37 years old? Chuck Hayes equals winning IMO.
I tried to link the video of his game winner vs the Twolves, but cant get it to upload. But he did hit a game winning layup with 0.8 secs left. his only basket of the game, I believe.
David West and Jason Terry have been effective recently. Hayes has been the scrubbiest of scrubs for the last 4 years - he's really a shell of the guy he was in 2010-11. He hasn't even reached Joey Dorsey's 11 PER in any of those seasons. West has 3 inches on Hayes and can shoot. Had a 16 PER last season. Really not in the same conversation in terms of impact players.
Agree as far as offense is concerned between Hayes and West, but I'll still take Hayes over West as far a situational defender even with West's extra 3 inches. Hayes is a more versatile defender than Dorsey IMO and at times Dorsey did not play that bad when manning the 5 spot during the season. Would love to see Hayes mentor Capela.
Yeah, I don't know why people think he's too old. He's only 32, which is normally the tail end of a player's prime. He has been playing less and less in the past 3 years or so. But I've always suspect that he needs a coach who understand how he was useful on both ends. Adelman admitted that he had recognized too late of Hayes's impact on the court.
I would rather find someone that can shoot better than 50% from the free throw line. There have to be some young big men that may have some upside that can shoot free throws.
He's over 60% for one, the other, he only gets to the line 30 times a year so who cares? His % is a non-factor, Jesus.
Will chick be playing backup center or Capela. If he's a 3rd string center then cool to sign him on to 20man roster. However this Is a mirror of last year when guys like Ed Davis got vet min, and we signed Dorsey, ish etc gave pap whole MLE This year green, amare, west signed vet mins, we're looking at chuck who may not roster, just want to dig a lil deeper
Oh, I see you are correct. I guess I owe Mr. Hayes an apology. His career average is over 60%, and he shot over 54% last year, so that would make him one of our best free throw shooters on our front line. I don't see him getting much playing time though. He would be our third or fourth string center. I would rather see that roster spot go to a young player. But, I do admit to being a Chuck Hayes fan when he was here. It looks like the Rockets are trying to fill up the end of there bench with veteran players on minimum contracts. I guess Hayes fits into that role.
Woooo. Bring back the Chuckwagon!! I could see him being lethal on the high low pass playing the four, and the same in a small-ball five out lineup!
....unless we play the Spurs, in which case, if he still has anything to bring to the table, it wouldn't make a difference because he'd have to sit it out.
He is also 6'6 and trying to play pf/ C. It is not like Tim Duncan and and all Jason Terry.... what in the world can he do at this point besides go out there and literally break someone's legs if need be. Morey is just making desperate moves right now.
You either didn't watch him play, or you don't remember. Chuck used to get the ball on offense on just about every possession. His passing ability was an asset out of the high post, and at center, he was frequently a mismatch. I remember a set we used to run with Chuck at the high post, and the guard and wing would screen for each other. The guard would cut backdoor, and the wing back out to the three point line. Chuck was a master at reading this and making the right choice. As he became more comfortable with this role, he found that he was able to beat larger centers off the dribble when the center would help cover the pass from the high post. He was a beast on the boards and would frequently out-rebound larger opponents with his good positioning, and his defense was always impressive. He would be a good fit with this team. Its easy to see Morey's strategy. We lost to the champions and the moves we're making will give us the flexibility to imitate how they were beating the rest of the league last year. It may sound silly, but a player like Chuck effectively go small with him being a facilitator out of the high post for perimeter shooters and play-makers, and you can play him at the four with Howard or D-Mo at the five because of his effectiveness in the high post.
About chuck playing less over the last few years... The Kings had no idea how to use him and coach turnover didn't help... Then he was traded to the raptors where he was used strictly as a defensive stopper.
