Using Ricky Rubio and Michael Jordan in the same sentence should in any sort of comparison statement should result in instant permaban.

Rubio is elite, and I mean ELITE in the open floor. Great court vision and great passer.

    Solid defense as well.

Unfortunately, he is pretty terrible offensively otherwise, terrible scorer and shooter. In the halfcourt his great court vision doesn't have as much of an impact.

I'm not sure he's a great fit on this team, he's an upgrade over Beverley for sure, but from what I have seen Rubio is only good in the open floor. Not impressive at all in the halfcourt.

The bottom line is he can't hit a layup and he shoots 3's at a below average percentage. If they leave him open to shoot 20 shots or force passes like GS did with Josh Smith, he becomes a downgrade from Beverley

The Rockets play with more below average 3pt shooters more than most teams that shoot volume 3s. Josh Smith, Brewer, Lin, etc. We haven't been this type of team since we stopped playing Delfino at the 4 and inserted Jones/DMo.

We also have crappy odds at the rim. Harden has been the only good finisher among our perimeter players. Beverley? No. Ariza? lol! Terry? Old. Brewer? Only in transition. Rubio would be no different except he can also pass.

I'm against Rubio in general because I don't think he's worth the price, but don grahamleone is certainly correct that people are just bashing his weak points to the ground rather baselessly. If he's a FA I would love him for the MLE.

I think for the right price he's worth a trial. But Beverley and Ariza also hit the 3 at an above average rate. Terry as well (but Rubio is certainly an upgrade from Terry). Brewer is useless on offense outside of transition.

Pointing out the weakest links in our offense doesn't change Rubio's catastrophic percentage at the rim (35% or so).

These are all impressive. He's great at passing and defense. But he shot 32%at the rim in 2014-2015. He did make 48% the year before at the rim, but to be clear 48% at the rim is considered abysmal. 32% at the rim is considered "his floor is through the floor". So getting him to drive to the rim isn't the solution. T _ones is FAR better at the rim. And Rubio shot 14% from the corner 3 last year too (I believe it was in teens or low 20% on the other corner), and 24% and 30% from the wings on 3s. This is as a guard. Keep in mind that any guard who shoots 40% or below is considered an ABYSMAL shooter. Rubio hasn't been just abysmal at shooting, he's historically abysmal. If he were just BAD, then his strengths would cover up. But he's BEYOND bad, at a position where shooting is important. Again, he makes Rondo look like Steph Curry at shooting. That's how bad he is.

Add that to the fact that he's injured every year and can't stay on the floor, and what you've got is a Lamborghini with no tires and no transmission (and since he's been playing since 16 years old, it doesn't look like he'll ever find them). Looks great so badly missing in the essentials that you can't take it anywhere but admire it from the distance. The only way he works if he's surrounded by 4 (3 MINIMUM) pure sharpshooters like Golden State has. About 2-3 teams in the league have that many sharpshooters. The rockets can't even get 1 of them.

Pass (especially once you factor in that he's hurt EVERY year).

One thing that is not being spoken is the improvement that will come with playing alongside James Harden and Dwight Howard, no one will be able to stay on him, he will be free to attack the rim at will.

Does anybody ever wonder how Rubio creates all those shots for everybody when he can't shoot? Wouldn't, you know, the defense just fade off him and, you know, force him to shoot all the time??????

Those plays Rubio makes lead to perfect looks. The man is a basketball genius. He knows how to break down defense and draw defenders to him like flies on honey, and then he's got eyes in the back of his head to find his teammates all over the place. How does a guy that can't shoot draw so much defensive attention that it leaves his teammates so wide open, in rhythm, with the perfect pass hitting them right in the hands in their shooting position? I'm telling you, the man is a basketball genius. When the defender fades away, Rubio just walks it down on him and then Rubio will split his man and another defender and have them chasing him around like chickens with their heads cut off. He makes the entire defense look like a school yard crack the whip game while they chase him around.

I appreciate Harden's playmaking very much. He's done so much for this team. And he's been so unselfish about it. But...Rubio would send Harden and Howard into the stratosphere with the way he sets up guys. Rubio would probably average 4 points, 13 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals here and he'd cut the whole team's turnover rate down about 25-30% across the board. Rubio is a whole different level of playmaker than Harden is. It's not even close.

And then a bunch of guys say, "He can't finish, he can't finish." Watch teh video and understand why. He completely breaks down the defense and has 3 defenders on him when he goes to the rim. Once in a while he gets stuck and has to put it up. But it's because he's so good at sucking multiple defenders to him. Not because he's an atrocious finisher. Not even Westbrook could finish against the multiplicity of defenders Rubio engages down low.

What is so hilariously stupid about this gif is Rubio slipped on a wet spot on the floor and this board lights this up like it's the be-all end-all of Rubio vs. Harden. This same play has happened to Harden when he defends too many times to count.

What makes it doubly hilarious is nobody, and I mean nobody, realizes that that play demonstrates how QUICKLY Rubio recovers. Sure, Harden knocked down the shot. There's not 3 defenders in the NBA who could recover back on the shooter as fast as Rubio did there.

    Troll on guys.

When I was taking Spanish classes in high school, the vosotros thing messed me up good. Therefore, I dislike Rubio.

our team is chalk full of elite finishers. I don't understand how so many of you are dismissive of the idea of adding one of the best playmakers and set up guys in the league to our squad. Yes he has apparent flaws. But man, take the athletes on our team and give them a guy who can find them on a dime with a perfect pass, and it'll be a beautiful thing.
