Iran has threatened numerous times to destroy Israel, our only true ally in the region. Of course given the post history of many on this forum, I am sure that would be met with thunderous applause. LINK
I think this is a very apt comparison to this deal. Obviously it doesn't prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon long-term but it does in the short-term and that is absolutely better than "no deal." Iran's younger generations are fairly progressive by Middle Eastern standards and this deal opens the door for Iran as a potential future ally of the US in the Middle East. Heck, they've already shown a willingness by helping to take on ISIS. Obviously for this scenario to eventually unfold it would still require future changes at the top of Iran's still very radical leadership. And the Republicans supposed solution of imposing harsher sanctions on Iran to bring them back to the table for a "better deal" would very likely result in an even further shift towards extremism in Iranian politics and no deal at all. Rouhani is considered a moderate in Iranian politics and is much preferrable to someone like, say, Ahmadinejad. Additionally, if the Republicans in Congress believe that imposing harsher sanctions on Iran will bring them back to the table for a better deal, what's to stop the Iranian leadership from believing the exact opposite: that pushing harder towards a nuclear weapon will net them a better deal.
How is our Middle East policy sane? We jump back and forth supporting one faction and then attacking that same faction years later. We are the ones that created the conditions for the rise of the Islamic Republic in Iran. Who has Iran attacked in the past century? How was the support of the Shah sane? We helped fund Saddam in a war against them 30 years ago. We helped organize a coup in the early 50s in Iran against their democratically elected government.
That's a loaded question to begin with. I don't want to live in Florida or Massachusetts, but I can admit there are a tons things in each state that are better than here in Oregon. I can go on and on about the crap here...
What is Iran's delivery system -- a scud? What will happen to Iran after they drive their fission bomb to Israel by tanker truck and detonate it -- won't they melt in thermonuclear rage? Why doesn't Iran just launch dozens of scuds with poison gas or bio agents they've had for decades -- certainly that would be just as devastating... why hasn't Iran done this if they truly want to destroy Israel?
KC, think about what you just said?? Scuds with poison gas vs a nuclear attack??? A poison gas attack would result in Israel retaliating with the devastating attack. A nuclear attack could cripple Israel.
No it wouldn't -- Israel and the US would melt Iran if they ever figured out a way to get a large fission bomb into Israel -- they certainly have no bombers or missiles that could carry a large device. Unless Iran is going to deliver fat man 2 by train or tanker they're not going to be hitting Israel with a nuke for a long time. You really think Israel doesn't have hardened bunkers that could survive and retaliate against a nuclear strike?
Pssst ... do you really think North Korea wouldn't sell them a few missiles capable of nuclear delivery?
Don't worry, this deal will allow them to keep improving their missile technology and will give them billions more to funnel into that program. The deal was win/win Iran still gets to do whatever they want and they get a ton more cash to do it and the US gets to pretend like they worked out a deal. This administration already showed how good they are at making deals when they traded 5 high ranking Taliban members for a traitor.
Are you as naive as Obama? Iran was just given the green light to develop anything they want and with the sanctions lifted they will have even more funds to do so. If there is any question to what they are doing, they are allowed to stall somewhere between 21 - 24 days before inspectors are allowed to see what they are doing and that is assuming they even comply with the rules in the agreement. With enough funding and determination, you do not think they could develop a delivery system???? Not only that, they are the chief funders of the terrorist right on Israels borders which do not need long range missiles for deployment.
^^^these are the same people who predicted WMDs and a Romney landslide. Sane America is leaving you folks behind.
Do you really think they give a rats ass what the USA thinks especially when they just took the USA president to the cleaners? You do realize they want to destroy Israel for religious reasons don't you??? They are not very worried about retaliation.
There's a bit of a difference between nuking someone 1000 miles away and nuking someone that you share a border with. If Japan was in Canada, the US wouldn't have nuked them.
