I missed the beginning of Adam Silvers press conference, but Rick Kamla summarized at the end that playoff order is going to be based on record and no longer take divisions into account. Anyone catch it?
Oh please. Next step is to do away with conferences and just let the best 16 teams in the playoffs (14 from the West and 2 from the East??)

yes. It has been rumoured for a while. Craptors will lose their default top 4 seed. Good news for the league!
I watched... since the owners finally got to meet, they agreed upon this. Basically going back to how it was in the past.. top 8 from each conference.
Nothing to do with East or West, its 1-8 best regular season standing determine the 1-8 seeds, nothing to do with division champ.
I'm still like a lone voice that isn't fully in support of this change. The teams don't play the same schedule. 1-8 based on record is fine... But in a tie break it should be record against common opponents that is used.
Top 8 in each conference is the way it should be. Ridiculous Portland had the 4th spot given their W/L ratio based on division. And really, who celebrates the division wins? Other than reading we won our division last season, there's no parade in the street for it. No one really cares. Conference finals a different thing and same with overall winner. Overdue.
There are 2 parts to this: div winner gets a top 4 seed & div winner as a tie breaker for seeding when W-L record is the same. Are they dropping both? Wonder how this would have affected Rockets seed last season...
They haven't voted on it yet, but they will drop only the div winner not the tie break. This has been coming for months they just got the chance to vote on it now. The only team that this is affecting in the coming season is the Raptors and the Titanic division.
You say this like it's a bad thing? If you love sports, you want to see the best challenging the best for the championship. Best 16 gives us a better chance of that happening than the current system.

If they do away with conferences, then they need to re-think schedule biases. That is, if a team has a 82 game regular season schedule and there are 29 other teams to play, then you play 25 of them (3) times and 4 of them twice. A 87 game schedule would make the math work better in that you would see every other team exactly three times. If this is what you mean, you are not alone.
How would the Rockets still be ahead of the Clippers? They split head-to-head and LAC had the better conference record. Edit: I guess someone said they will still use division winner as a tiebreaker.
It is also a business. So many Eastern teams would lose out on money in the playoffs that would make it in the current system right now.
I agree but unfortunately there's no incentive to. The Knicks' average season ticket prices are $123 on average compared to a competitive star-studded team like OKC at $51.1. Especially with Revenue sharing the owners collectively would lose out on money.
