Oh...I could have sworn someone on the bbs told us that no teams were interested in him prior to the 2nd DUI. Who was it again?
Sorry, you don't get it. I've consistently said we weren't interested in Lawson on a 2/25 deal. And I'm not for sure we're interest at a minimum salary deal now. But I can see that possibility a lot more than I can see us taking on 2/25. And I've been very consistent that we weren't trading for Lawson owed 2 years and $25 million. I've been very clear we weren't interested in that contract. All I'm discussing now is with people who still think we should acquire him for our non-guaranteeds and trash contracts like Dorsey, etc. Most of them were advocating giving up serious assets for him when I was telling them that we weren't willing to give up assets for Lawson. Now instead of understanding that it's still not in our best interest to take on Lawson at 2/25 they think we can really get a deal by trading trash contracts for him. And my point is that's not even a good deal. At this point the only palatable deal for this team is to get him as a low-budget free agent signing. That way if he screws up we can dump him and it doesn't hurt us. I think he may be worth a flyer on those terms. If he turns it around he can be a great backup playmaker BEHIND Harden and possibly for a few minutes beside Harden. And then you go from there and see what you can do with him. But I've never been for acquiring Lawson and giving up assets for his current contract. Not since I first posted this thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=9345796#post9345796 last year, and was informed that we weren't interested in Lawson because he didn't play D and he had attitude/personal problems. Nothing was detailed to me but you'll notice in my posting history that I came off Lawson back then and I've been off him ever since.
That is not exactly correct. Obviously his issues haven't been near as public as Lawson's, but several people reported that Hibbert suffered multiple emotional breakdowns during the 2013-2014 season. My guess is this a significant reason he was traded to the Lakers for virtually nothing in return.
I would love Lawson BUT depending on cost. While his stock is at an all time low due to off the field issues. He's a very capable player offensive player. I think the role of a 6th man off the bench would be a great fit for him on this team.
But I'll say this, the more that comes out..........yeah, I might be willing to wait and see if he agrees to a settlement with the Nuggets, even if it would only cost us Papa, Prig, TJones, and Dorsey (plus cash) to trade for him.
Honestly you guys are overreacting... You have no idea what most NBA players drink/smoke on a regular basis. Most athletes do it immediately after their game. So he took his car while doing it? Ok he's really dumb. But I'm not asking this kid to isolate x i'm asking him to put the rock in the basket. Not so long ago fans loved this guy, he was funny, approachable and was playing like an all-star. Oh so quickly we forget these things. Hopefully Morey doesn't and if he doesn't pick him up it's because he thinks that he wouldn't fit basketball-wise. I know the Rockets aren't afraid to take wild swings on players who have history (see Royce White) so I think it all goes down to how they value him on the team.
In my opinion, a DUI should be treated the same as carrying illegal firearms. You are essentially hurling thousands of pounds of metal at high speeds with the added danger of impaired reaction time and hindered judgement. The saddest part is that you are not only putting yourself in danger but other innocent people at harm's way and life threatening situations. Not only that but in Lawson's case he is driving a Mercedes SUV which likely would have destroyed most other vehicles on the road. If you don't understand the siginificance of your actions and their potential consequences, you should not be allowed to drive period. I do not want such characters on my team, regardless of talent or bargain price.
No you don't get it. This guy was second in the league in assists last season and one hell of a playmaker/scorer. Our team badly needs this at the PG position. There is no other PG available that can do what he does on the offensive end for us. His lack of defense won't kill us anymore than what Terry and Prigs did in the playoffs, and I suspect it will actually be better because he is younger and faster. Us trading TJones, Dorsey, Nick, Prigs and KPap for him would be a STEAL because we need those roster spots anyway for better players/potential. I am only including TJones because hopefully we resign Smith and because his salary is needed. I wouldn't mind giving up the cash to cover Dorsey and Prigs since Denver will probably want to waive them anyway. At this point, we probably won't even have to include any draft picks as this would be a steal for Denver. Getting TY for those players would make the Rockets serious contenders imho, assuming we resign Smith. I posted a trade proposal in the new random trade thread specifically for this. If you think you can get the second best assist man in the NBA for peanuts of 3 to 6 million a year because he has some minor off court issues (imho), then I think you are not being realistic, especially with the huge rise in the cap. Smith, when we got him for cheap because of the stretch, was NOT performing on his team the way Lawson did last year for the Nuggets. No contender needs him more than we do. There is not another PG available that suits us better for what he can bring if we can get him for those assets mentioned. As far as him impacting the cap next year and going after Durant, I'm sure Morey could figure out a way to make room for Durant no matter what if Durant chooses to come here next year. We have a much better chance at Durant wanting to come here next year if we seriously compete for a Ring with Lawson on the team, imho.
Yes. That is correct. But that is locker room stuff. Being a wuss about your girlfriends screwing your teammates (Hibbert, Pau, Lebron, Barry) in no ways compares to being drunk and screwing with your team.
Buy low Then work him a 24/7 deal with Blackhorse Limo You can get a lot of loyalty from a guy by giving him his last chance Don't most NBA contracts come with morals clauses where they are voidable on convictions?
I definitely understand your position here about DUI. But from looking at the video of him just minutes before he was pulled over, I just don't think he was drunk/intoxicated/impaired driving ability. Speeding, probably. Nevertheless, the Rockets maybe can make part of his terms (or just insist) that he has to always have a professional driver to drive him anywhere he wants to go. He makes $12 million a year. You can get a GREAT full time driver/bodyguard for less than $100k per year. Someone needs to just point this out to him and make it clear. As far as basketball is concerned, I think he would help this team out more than ANY OTHER player currently available to us.
It may seem like taking a few drinks and trying to drive home is innocent enough, however, he has done this twice now this year which has put him in a sticky situation with the law. Celebs have gone to jail for similar activities and even if he avoids it what are the chances he does it for a third time and really screws himself over. It would be up to the Rockets management to try and assess whether this was just innocent fun or a part of a deeper issue that can linger throughout this career.
He'd care about losing a valuable player in a situation we would probably not get much value in return. Why would you set yourself up for that possibility when it doesn't make any sense to do that?
