We'd be more interested in Eric Gordon and his expiring contract and 3-point shooting than we would Tyreke Evan's multi-year cap-clogging deal for a player that has historically been very inefficient offensively without the ability to spot-up and knock down the 3 and who also plays mediocre to poor defense.

I seriously doubt we are interested in Tyreke at all.

Decent move considering what is left.

This will go down as one of Morey's most underrated moves during his tenure.

I've heard a lot of proposals and wishes in threads from various posters in regards to acquiring CJ McColum. Well that wasn't going to happen without giving up key assets. What did happen was we acquired the OG version of CJ without losing anything and got him for as cheap as possible. Thornton is only older by a little more than 5 years, has more experience, shown that he can light it up for a full season and he has a lot of reasons to be excited to play here and play well.

    1) He's finally playing for a winning team and contender.

    2) He's playing for a nice multi-year contract after the season... With the increased cap he can earn himself something real nice.

    3) I think he wants to show he can get back to the level he once was and the last couple years have been a small hitch in his career. I think the dude has a lot of pride and is a gamer.

We should be excited we have a proven scorer that can light it up coming off the bench. I liken him to what Mo Williams was for the Blazers a couple years ago, what Belly was for the Spurs, what Terry was a few years back.

I'm stoked we got someone that can get buckets on a regular basis. Ariza can go on ice cold stretches, Bev is not and will never be a scorer, Brewer is streaky, Terry is too old and slow to be heavily relied upon.

This move feels and will be very Delfino-esq.

If he can be our Delfino then I'm all for it. It's hard to gauge it though since Carlos had three seasons of consistent play with the same team while Thornton has jumped around a lot. Hasn't found a good home.

Looks like with Terry and Thornton our guard rotation is set, guys. I like both of them but I don't think it's gonna cut it in the west.

If harden has a better season this upcoming season than last year, we are more than set.

Wish we could've gotten a two year deal with an opt out after one. For the minimum, I think the risk would have been mitigated and we could have gotten MT's bird rights.

I by any miracle we can put Lowry on this team... I... Have... No... Words...

I'd send TJones+Dekker/Picks whatever for Lowry.

Only issue is that I'm not sure we would have the cap for Durant next year. But then again Morey doesn't care about that he'll make a trade.

Bayou Bomber in the Bayou City. It's meant to be. It sounds silly, but I like the fact that he can spot up AND put the ball on the floor. This roster has guys who can only do one or the other (ariza can't dribble and brewer can't shoot). Really like that he can take the ball at the 3 pt line, use a pick, and get buckets. It's a skill that, on this team, only Harden has.

This gives us another small notch in the "playmaking" category and for the minimum, it's a great move.

All the moves the Raptors have made lately, it doesn't seem like they're going to be tanking anytime soon. Doubt Lowry is on the market, but I agree. I'd trade a good amount to bring him in. Would be a great combo with Beverley at PG.

I'd bet on us still bringing in a natural backup PG to compete for time, and also Brewer will play some at SG so it's not like either Terry or Thornton will play heavy minutes (except in case of injury)

96 minutes to go around at G

    Harden 38
    Beverly 30
    Brewer 12*

    = 80 minutes

So that leaves Terry, Thornton, and an additional PG signing/trade to battle for or split the remaining 16. My guess is they'll bring in a PG to fill those minutes or even take some of Bev's and Terry/Thornton only play spot minutes.

*Based on Ariza playing 35 mpg last year, Brewer played 25 mpg. Math tells me that Brewer played about 12 minutes per at SG.

We still have the MLE and Paps and Prigs contract. We will be a lot better next season.

I thought this article on Marcus Thornton from when he was on the Celtics last year was pretty good. Talks about his "spark plug" role and how he is/was a good fit with a shot creating player in the backcourt.

Five reasons why the Boston Celtics should keep Marcus Thornton

Also, vid of his clutch shots.

In watching Thornton's videos, in addition to his 3pt shooting, I like that he has some mid range game too. And some floaters. It's nice to have some of that on the Rockets to take advantage of some of those open areas around the paint/elbows.

I like your optimism! Though on (2) that contract may not be with us.

He doesn't play defense. He's a one position player. SG. He can't play with Harden. Absolutely no use for him on this team unless Harden is out with an injury.

Between Dekker and Thornton and the love affair with Montiejunas, Rockets are stocking up on players who don't play defense.

There is no reason why Thornton can't play with Harden. Thornton is very capable to hit the open shot. You can do that, you can play with Harden!

Motiejunas is underrated on defense IMO. Also, there is no reason why you can't play Harden and Thornton together. If two players play the same position, that doesn't mean you can't play them at the same time. Jones and DMo have been on the court together. So why can't Harden and Thornton? Hardens a ball handler. He'd be the PG in that line-up or in small ball, Thornton could be a 3. Also if I remember correctly, he had a solid chunk of minutes at the PG back in Sacramento.
