I am not an insider nor do I get inside information on a consistent basis. That being said, I was having beers with a former GM who is really good friends with Kevin Mchale tonight. While talking about 1990s NBA story lines and the warning signs about Adam Morrison before the draft...he stopped and said: "By the way, Kevin Mchale just texted me that Dekker may need back surgery." If you don't believe me, no worries. Hopefully Dekker does not need surgery, but this definitely does not look good.
Not staying I DON'T believe you but what could have possibly happened between the draft and now to warrant surgery. I'm sure it would have came up during the physicals.
Interesting... it would be very shady if Dekker knew he was having back problems but kept it hidden until he signed a contract. Let's just hope for the best though.
Dekker said he began feeling sore late last month, but thought it was from the long stretch of the season and pre-draft preparations. “A couple weeks ago I thought it was nothing,” Dekker said. “It kept progressing so we thought we’d be safe with it and not push anything and let things settle down. That’ll be the best thing for me. This isn’t what you want to do as a basketball player, but sometimes have to do.
anyone have a link to draftexpress's live blog on draft night? i think the guy mentioned a player or players dropping in the first round due to injuries or requiring surgery. the only specific thing i remember was how he mentioned portis wasn't one of them even though he dropped hard in the draft.
There was nothing known about Dekker. I can't believe that it would escape the teams medical staff something like this. I hope your friend just bull****ing you. looney. That's why he got drafted 30. WCS also will probably need surgery and was projected to fall but Kings gonna King. There was absolutely nothing known about Dekker and his back. He hadn't even injured it then.
Thanks OP. No idea if he needs or will have surgery but looks like he is in danger of missing SL.

Sam Dekker (sore back)) probably won't play tonight. Woelful doesn't know anything. He has no sources. And Feigen is saying that ALL of them will miss summerleague not just Dekker. So unless we have an epidemic of sudden injuries this is an order from the team to keep them out of action.
If true, I guess it explains why Mchale sounded bummed in his interview during the 2nd game Overall it isn't as bad as it sounds. He was going to be in the dleague anyway and we can afford to let him heal properly.
Welp, already found the pick very questionable. Horrible if true, we really could've drafted a decent PG instead of gambling.
