Last year the Rox signed Jeff Adrian, Ish Smith, 2 years ago also with Reggie Jackson, Cassipi. Some worked out, but mostly don't. There is a reason they can be had for minimum.
1. Curry burns EVERYONE, so lets get that foolish argument of guarding him out of the way first. It's PBev's job to guard Curry, or at least slow him down. Thornton's job is to come off the bench and relieve the guard position when they need a break. If we ARE letting Curry burn him for 15, we are doing it wrong to begin with. 2. He can and will be useful. If he is feeling it, he can put up buckets in a hurry, making him VERY useful. At the very worst, if we had him last year, it would have prevented us from playing Harden, Terry, and Prigs as many minutes as we had to, which is still useful. 3. Both Prigs and JET were incredibly slow and old for us last season. They were also very useful for us as depth insurance when Beverley went down. You really think Thornton won't be just as useful if not more as depth, I really don't know what to say.
24 people accidentally clicked the wrong button in the poll. That's actually not a bad percentage out of about 540.
Right, that's why I'm thinking he's a superior version of Isaiah Canaan right now. And for the minimum, that's not all that bad.
There are a lot of players expecting to play in the rotation on this roster. Training camp should be interesting.
I love this signing. Thorton is the JJ Reddick-type player that was missing from last years team. He moves well w/o the ball off of screens and has decent handles despite being more of a shooter. The Rockets lacked a PG and a good outside shooter last year with the exception of Harden. Thorton gives the Rockets another ball handler and guy that can knock down the open 3. And yes, I think he will excel in this offense as most players do.
And because they can be had for the minimum, I expect nothing from them. I have no expectations for Thornton, anything good from him is a bonus. I wasn't upset that Adrien, Ish Smith, Reggie Jackson, and Cassipi didn't work out, either. We commit absolutely nothing to these guys, not even a second year. Them being busts had no effect on us whatsoever.
I think he will be better than Prigioni, who was awful, but JET's metrics for us last year are a damn sight better than any of Thornton's the best 3-4 years. Again, a decent vet min signing but I don't see this making a tremendous difference. I hope I'm wrong.
for those who like bradley beals game... marcus thornton was his comp coming out of florida http://www.nbadraft.net/players/bradley-beal
"4 3pt shooter....winning more important than money...bird is squaking too much." Lots of us thought JSmoove, although the squaking bird seems to be former Jayhawk Markieff. (Sigh)
well Markieff will be traded very very soon. So there's that. It doesnt even require particular insider info or knowledge just looking at him destroying the lockeroom and the team.
well his minutes and production must have taken a dip otherwise no way he would have be had for cheap (minimum)
Is Thorton's contract guaranteed ? I would rather he have to fight for his spot . It is completely conceivable that Johnson and KJ could outplay him in the preseason and claim the backup guard spots with Terry as vet leader. I just don't want to be cornered into having to giving him a roster spot.
