The tunnel he escaped in was fully ventilated and had lighting.

Uhh... it was to help the people actually building the tunnel for him... provided a way to "disguise" what they were doing, and also allowed them to have a place to stay.

No, it was meant to be his retirement home, but clever LE officials figured out where the exit of the tunnel was located.

Overheard today, without any bit of sarcasm: "Mexican prisons should be required to have American people working as their guards so this stuff doesn't happen."

Pretty sure I made the face that one guy did when Bill OReilly said something like "tide comes in, tide goes out... therefore, God exists."

The poor folks in his communities already do. He is their Robin Hood. I had to laugh at the former DEA agent on CNN this morning saying that this guy is responsible for thousands of deaths because he transported heroin, cocaine, mar1juana, etc. Uh...yeah, he killed thousands like Big Pharma has with their legal drugs and who the **** has died from smoming weed. If this dude's cartel wasn't killing innocents, I might root for him too tbh. We would all help him escape if he whispered our home address into our ears.

They never should have taken him alive to begin with, there was never any chance of a prison in Mexico being competent enough to hold a prisoner of that caliber.

next time he's caught, he needs to go straight to ADX Florence, the most secure prison in the world.

He transported more than weed. Most of the heroine in this country are from his cartel.

That made me chuckle! Without a doubt there are certain societies that are more corrupt than others, but regardless of which society you reside in, to say that a certain type of individual is bulletproof (pun intended) is pure unadulterated folly! I don't pretend to know the motives of the people who helped him escape, but I'm almost certain that a great deal of pressure was involved. You can either help and get compensated or refuse and harm comes to you or even more important to one of your loved ones! Until the human element is somehow taken out of the equation most powerful/wealthy people can literally make a mockery out of the judicial system!

He was probably in on it. This guy is way to powerful in Mexico to be imprisoned in Mexico.

I know, I listed it. This thing is way bigger than some billionaire drug kingpin escaping from prison. The war on drugs needs to be ended.

I thought so...The report I saw said it was built for him, talked up that it was only one bedroom...poor journalism, I guess.

Ventilation is really important in a tunnel like that -- you can actually suffocate and die if it's not built well. As for lighting, yeah they could send a guy to escort him with a flashlight, but running a circuit down the ceiling with a fixture every 100 feet or whatever is actually pretty dang easy to do. Plus all the street cred you get when your luxury escape tunnel hits the papers the next day.
